The first round of movies were made by people who absolutely loved the material, who knew how to please both the fandom and the mainstream (because they were part of the fandom), and who loved their country and wanted to show it to the whole world. The whole trilogy is a huge labor of love, and IMHO that's one of the things that made the films so popular. It was a magic that can't be recaptured or replicated, not even the same crowd could pull it off again when they made the godawful "Hobbit" movies.
As the only one here who born in Middle Earth and been member of Fellowship of the Ring I really skeptic about the movie chance to captured Tolkien vision (the best historian of the middle earth).
On other note, LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring is the best movie between the three and the most historical accurate.
The David Zaslav-led studio hopes to woo back Peter Jackson for more installments. But as Amazon bets big on its $1 billion series, insiders worry that Tolkien's franchise isn't big enough for two rival visions.
I shudder to think of what they might do, even with Peter Jackson at the helm. They at least have access to the Simarillion and several other works Amazon doesn't. Unless they can keep the woke shit out, this won't go over any better than what happened with "Rings of Power."
