Jim Carrey no good for this part.

This film was a great idea but Jim Carrey can not help pullin that stupid rubbery face and actin the clown.... The film makers should've cast a serious actor to play Trueman. Carrey just turned it into a comedy act. It would have been so much better and more realistic without Jim Carrey's rubbery over the top facial expressions and his over the top chicken walks! This film didnt need that! It wasnt a comedy. The story idea didnt need comedy in it!

I know the part you are talking about and that is really just the ending when he gives that silly smile, but other than that he is perfect. I think the movie is a dark comedy anyway so it wasnt that off base. I think Carrey set the right tone, and a serious actor would not have made Truman as endearing to people in my opinion. And beside the point I believe that Jim Carrey is a serious actor!

Many gave Carrey credibility as a dramatic actor because of this role, so... you're wrong. Yes he brings some *appropriate* comedic elements to the movie, but he's not exactly doing Ace Ventura. All in all, he owned the Truman role.

You want something corny? You got it!

Typically dislike Jim Carrey and find that his method of 'over acting' annoys the hell out of me but I really thought he did well in this role.

well, it's like your opinion man ..

Did you ever see "Doing Time on Maple Drive"? Carrey did an excellent job as totally serious actor in that role.

His casting always got in the way for me. This is a high concept film and I was always aware I was watching a Jim Carrey movie. I don't think fame was the issue. Sam Rockwell or Owen Wilson or somebody could have done a role like this. But Carrey is so famous for antics. And this not being a typical antic film. IDK. Kept me from ever buying into the story.

Watching this again, I realized this is basically a Tom Hanks movie. He would have been perfect for the role. I'd be surprised if it wasn't written with him in mind.

It...wasn't supposed to be entirely realistic. That's the fucking point. There's a glint of abstraction and unrealistic portrayal to hint at the fact Truman's entire world is a show.

reply

Truman's entire world was a joke. That's a comedy.
