This especially have ALWAYS bothered me

No mistake about it, for me....
Spawn, even though made as a B-movie, is great.
I haven´t read the comics at all.
But the worst thing that bothers me a lot every time I watch this movie IS the animation of Malebogia (The Devil).

Every time he has a line then you see a sort of wolfs head with an open mouth with ABSOLUTELY NO KIND OF MOVEMENT of the beasts lips when he's talking.

Nearly everything else made with CGI is almost perfect - given the fact that this movie came out in 1997.

But WHAT THE *beep* is up with the CGI-version of Malebogia EACH AND EVERY time he speaks???

Did they run out of money or did they have a time schedule to keep???

That's the worst thing that bothers me about this movie.
Am I alone in this wiev????

Otherwise I like this flick - given the fact that it was released in '97

He does look terrible and most other things look pretty good, I agree, but I'm sure it was a budget thing. It's common. Spawn's cape and the Violator were first priority, (as I think they should have been), but Malebolgia was put on the back-burner. I think this is why the dinosaurs didn't look as good as Kong did in the 2005 King Kong movie.

Having said that, I have plenty of other complaints with this film... I don't mind them omitting lots off good details from the comics & stuff, because I understand that it needs to happen in movie adaptations, but there are big complaints I have regarding directing, editing, and dialogue.

dude i totally agree with you. i have always thought that the devil looked absolutely sh*t. i swear to god i could have done a better job on a spectrum 48k. turd.

Your making me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

It's thought that the voice of God would kill you so rather than speaking his thoughts are transferred into your mind. Maybe his mouth isn't moving as he isn't actually speaking?

They could have made those scenes more realistic, but I personally think that the poor animation is ment to be that poor.
I mean, just by doing everithing else so great they are almost screaming:
We could have done better, but we wanted hell to look like N64 graphic.
Personally I like the hell scenes, mostley becuse it feels like a hell dimension, nothing has form and it dosn´t even feel real, woluld you like to spend eternity in a place like that ? ;)

I always thought that the whole HELL and Devil scenes were done crappy because they were going to do some other thing, and probably ran out of budget or something and had to do them in a hurry with minimal budget.

Because the violator scenes were really good and then ALL the hell scenes and Malebogia scenes looked like video game from the 90's scenes.

I dont think ILM, really were even trying that hard with the CGI. Violator & Malbolgia just look really crap.

haha i agree, i noticed that too. i let out a loud laugh when he (it?) first came on-screen lol. i had to remind myself it was made in '97.

I havn't seen this movie in like 8 years, and I'm sure the effects suck...but in the cartoon Violater (and I think Malbogia) speak without moving their mouths through telepahthy or something. It comes across pretty awesome in the cartoon for Violater at least.

Even for 1997 standards they could've done better. A lot of games back then looked better than the Hell scenes.

No doubt it looked incredibly lame but poor voice choice too, was waiting to hear..

I'll get you next time, Gadget!!
