"Propaganda: Information, esp. of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view"
Exactly how is this movie then propaganda? The closest thing you can claim to be of a political cause or point of view is the notion that America in general is worth fighting for. And given the alternative depicted in the movie, that of living in squaller under a tyrant, I'd say America would seem MORE than worth fighting for to these people. Nobody in this movie is saying that the American way is the only way, or that other countries out there all have it wrong. The message is simply that 1) Freedom (in general, no specifically American freedom) is worth fighting for and 2) A relatively free democracy is better than a tyrannical dictatorship.
And why is the scene of the statue too much? Is it that you don't believe the characters should have erected a statue in the first place, or that the filmmakers shouldn't have shown the statue? Given what others have done to get statues and other monuments made in their image in America's history, I'd say that Costner's character was very deserving of a statue. Are you telling me that in what ever country your from, nobody would erect a statue for a person that basically lead the people of that country to freedom and generally improved everybody's way of life?
