Why did you watch Gummo?

I hated this movie. My brother tricked me into watching it, telling me it was "good". I kept asking him "when does it get good?" and he kept saying "soon, just keep watching it". When it was over, I told him it was horrible and I wished I'd never seen it. Then he said "haha, I just tricked you into watching one of the worst movies ever!". Fyi I am 32 and my brother is 20, he thought it was a good joke to make me watch this crap and he knew the only way I'd see it was by him telling me it was "good" because we have somewhat similiar tastes in film. So thats my excuse. Sorry if this has been done before, but I don't want to read thru all the Gummo posts, just tell me: "WHY DID YOU WATCH THIS CRAP?"

I first saw a glimpse of the movie while watching Belly and it looked like something I absolutely had to see.

It was on a list of *beep* movies that has previously proven to be quite good.

I'm sort of asking myself the same thing at the moment, so when I saw your post title.. I had to have a look.

It is in a list .. 1000 films you should see before you die published by 'The Guardian'... (sort of British equivalent to NYT / Washington Post for our American friends)

Saw it in theatres in 1997, haven't looked back. I can watch it 1000 times now.

I first watched it because I'm a fan of Chloë Sevigny, and was really into her earlier movies. I was a freshman in college and rented it from the library. I saw Julien Donkey Boy some time later, which is a harder film to digest in my opinion.

When you see the piece of bacon strapped on the wall, duing the dirty batthub scene, THEN you know it's good ;)

I think Harmony Korine's point is that no matter how f'ed up you are, you have something beautiful inside you. It doesn't have a consistent narration and is very fragmented, but it's the pieces of hopes and dreams and settling down in a non-derrivative environment that is captivating me. It's not about high morale, but more about the human value as a general term. Aaaaand: People chase value too much, see this reality instead, care less

Saw Kids and sought this out, as well as the others like Bully. Had a friend who liked Kids because he had the same speech impediment as the protagonist.
