Pacino not getting an Oscar nom has to be one of the all time biggest travesties

His acting in this movie is off the charts.

reply

I agree, one of his best performances for me.

reply

Agreed

Not that good. He deserved it for Scent of a Woman and was nominated for 8 others, but this one to me was just another gangster film.

reply

The subtleties in his performance are underrated. Its easy to say, he´s playing just another "mobster" that comes with the standard stereotypes. The scene that really gets me is where he first meets Donny with his body movements etc. He also finds a way of humanizing a character that has killed 26 people and you actually feel sorry for him.

reply

True, I mean he played the "good" guy vs. his bad mob bosses. Anyway he wouldn't have been up against much that year. Geoffrey Rush won for Shine. Billy Bob Thornton for Slingblade was nominated. Most Oscars have little to do with quality and more to do with politics.

reply

Yeah I agree. Oscars are meaningless but still would have liked to see him got a bit more recognition for it than he did.

reply

hhmmm Slingblade for me ay rekon hhmmm I like ma Billy Burb purtata chips

But really, low key Pacino all the way.

reply

Never been a fan of this movie. Johnny Depp was a spoiler for me at the time.

Just rewatched this, remains one of best movies of all time in my opinion.

reply

There is never a time in the film where you are thinking that it is al Pacino acting like a mob guy. He is flawless.

One of the best acting jobs of all time and his career best.

reply

I dont know about career best because I havent seen all his films, its certainly up there though.
