Anyone else DEEPLY disturbed by the bashing of the Japaense guy?

I've seen Donnie Brasco probably 10 times and the scene where they bash the Japanese guy in the tiolet of the Japanese restaurant never gets any easier for me. Everytime I mention this to others who have seen this film, I get the impression that nobody else is as affected by the scene as me. Anyone else find that scene DEEPLY disturbing?

japanese waitors are not *beep* like the guy in Donnie Brasco...

they are mostly cowards who'd just say "it's ok if you don't want to sir"

The waiter was way out of line for hitting donnie like that? He just got dragged into a bathroom and almost beaten to death by four guys. Donnie got alittle tap on the leg.

How can a scene like that disturb you when you see axe's being put through peoples spines in the same film?

The original poster doesn't care that the waiter got bashed he cares because a japanese waiter got bashed.

Yes, but the difference between the guy's getting the axes through their spines is their low life gangsters who deserve it more or less. Like I stated before the scene is random and the guy is just an innocent waiter doing his job.

I lol'd hard when they smacked him with a trashcan.

i was torn. i thought it was kind of sweet they way they are like a family and the way they jumped in and stood up for Donnie like that but i didnt feel like the waiter deserved it.

ur gettin ur ass kicked by like 5 guys u think he thought to himself that the guy who he originally was arguin with didnt hit him all that much so i shouldnt hit him?

A real cool gangster would never do such a thing, he would just shut the waiter up. Maybe just by a look or by a gesture or something. Just think about it. How cool a gangster can a guy be if he drags a japanese waiter fella into the toilet and beats him up with his friends?!?! Definately this scene was made to show the audience that no matter how sympathetic we get with the idea of 'gangster' in the end almost all of them turn out to be real dickheads.

Well, the thing with it was that Depp didn't want to get busted since he had his recorder in his shoe but sure, that might have been the only way for him to cover himself from being busted as a cop.

It's not too much worse than what is in other films. But, and I'm guessing, this is partly why it got the rating it got (presumably R in America). People who live this kind of life think differently to others in the Western world.

If you get disturbed by scenes like this then don't watch Mafia/Gangster films, simple! The reason I didn't watch Seven more than once was the scene where they find the guy in the bed.....<shudder>

This is the Matrix!!!

The waiter does make a pretty stupid noise during his beating, which is then repeated during the play back on the tape, pretty funny. It's hard to feel sorry for him when Donnie tries to help him out and stop the others so he punches Donnie. Also no one needs a waiter patronising them and telling them what to do.
