Batman & Robin is considered one of the worst superhero movies in history, but the film was actually the best thing for DC and the Batman franchise.

If B&R had been a Forever like success there's wouldn't have been a Dark Knight trilogy because we would've gotten a fifth film around 1999 or 2000.

It lead to the pendulum swinging back the other way again and us getting some quality 'darker' Batman movies, so it worked out. (Doesn't stop me hating the film with a passion, though.)
