Study suggests Jon Stewart's Daily Show departure helped elect Donald Trump

https://bigthink.com/politics-current-affairs/jon-stewart

A new study titled “Did Jon Stewart Elect Donald Trump? Evidence From Television Ratings Data" by researchers from George Washington University and Ohio State University points to evidence that many Americans consume news from comedy sources, and that the former Daily Show host's absence may have played a role in affecting voter turnout. Stewart signed off from The Daily Show in August 2015, less than two months after Trump announced his candidacy. The study suggests that Stewart's key influence was in driving voters to the polls, rather than convincing them who to vote for. The study points to The Daily Show's ratings drop after Trevor Noah took over. "By our estimate, the ratings decline at The Daily Show was associated with a 1.11 percentage point increase in Republican presidential vote share at the county level, significant by conventional standards," the researchers wrote. The study also examined the effect of Stephen Colbert's departure from The Colbert Report in 2014, but it didn't find the same level of impact.

Jon Stewart is a Democrat, yes, BUT he is NOT an SJW. Meaning JS isn't a nutcase DEM like many are today. He's a reasonable human being... and a funny one. I miss him.

reply

Nah. Stewart simply emboldened people who's views were already set. He wasn't changing people's minds. America is mostly Christian and Conservative outside the big cities.

reply

And all the surrounding suburbs of those big cities. That's pretty much a majority of voters.

reply

I feel like he let us down, too. Not because of voter turnout, directly, but because we needed him to poke holes in Trump's backstory and show the country what a buffoon he was prior to the election.

He kept saying, "I've seen it all." But he hadn't. He hadn't seen anything like Trump before, unless you consider Reagan, but Reagan was at least intelligent and good hearted, and Stewart wasn't on the air then (I don't think).

Anyway, I so wish he would have stayed until the end of the 2016 campaign. Maybe we could have averted disaster.

People seem to forget that Trump's opponent was Hilary - an equally evil entity on its own.
It would be sad to see Jon make fun of Trump while glorifying another evil, which is probably what he would have done.
I say that because I already knew Jon to be a sellout - he was fully on board with the whole Syria war, and only made fun of the Russians, not even once pointing out the hypocrisy of the US' involvement, or other players (Saudi Arabia).

Give me a few examples of Trump being "evil" ?

Don't get me wrong, he calls a spade a spade, has not much of a filter, though TBH hes really refined himself past few years with the experience of being the president

He didnt start ANY new wars, he got the troops out of the middle east, squashed the north korea beef.
Got the Abraham accord sorted, which has seen MANY peace deals done in the middle east, which is the starting point for peace in the middle east.

I think you are an NPC honestly, if you think Trump is evil

Sure he calls out people for being useless, but that's because THEY ARE.
Fuck I swear anyone under 30 getting a little bit of feedback considers it a hate crime these days.

Big bunch of babies that were raised with bulldozer parenting
And look how weak they fucking are, need crying closets at top tier universities, the same university's that create future leaders

Here's to a Trump Dynasty for many years to come!
Where shit gets sorted/fixed and peoples feelings come 2nd

You go do a peace deal with the middle east, then come back and tell me how we should care about peoples feelings more than getting objectively shit done

I swear people don't like Trump because hes a bit mean, oh fuck off. Just fuck off, if that's it, if that's the reason why people don't like Trump. Then they are part of the problem, and should not be listened to.

reply

Well - back then, I thought to myself that if Clinton were to be elected, she'd start a war with Russia. If Trump won, he'd start a war with China. I can't help but feel like he didn't start one only because all the allegations against him kept him busy. Both parties are equally corrupt -

CCP Lecturer talking about how Biden is close to wall St, and how CCP has used Wall Street to serve their interests while talking about the ruling elite in America (deep state) and how they are close to them.
Also talks about how Trump is a problem for them

Trump talks hard game against China because someone needs to stand up to them

Unless you want China to be the dominant country so eventually the concentration camps spread, with slow adoption of social credit scores dictating an individuals quality of life

Edit - Also China doesn't want a war, Trump knows this.
Trump also knows China is a house of cards also, financially speaking say with their huge housing bubble.

This is a financial war, but whoever wins, wins dominance for the world stage, thus world agenda

Trump has 4 years of peace deals, no wars. He has credibility in this area.
Notice how Obama and Biden couldn't fix the North Korea thing, then Trump sorts it out in a year or so.

Amigo - I'm well aware that Biden is firmly in the China's pocket. Unlike the Trump-Russia collusion fake story, there's actual evidence of China having Biden family under its thumb.

I am also aware that the elections were rigged -

And Obama - the peace nobel prize winner? lol why are you bringing up that military complex puppet?

reply

Allllright then the gap is that you think Trumps evil

Or maybe you have changed your mind?
Or maybe you didn't think too much about it until now?

all good man

Trump does a good speech at Davos, in Jan or Feb this year.
He talks about the what possibilities a society can do, when its one nation, one people, working together, to obtain the best outcomes
He's full against the World Economic Forum / Great reset thing

reply

With Trump gone Colbert and "The Late Show" is toast.

Kimmel is trying...but he's not really funny.

Neither of the above can get through an interview without pissing themselves.

It's just bad television.

Missing Carson and Letterman.

reply

I'm pretty sure the American public just couldn't vote for an unlikable Hillary, they were willing to take a shot with firebrand Trump.
