Sorry but Pierce Brosnan is just not James Bond.

I recently rewatched the series and have to say that Pierce Brosnan (a fine actor), I liked him in Remington Steele and Mama Mia, is just not James Bond. He is unconvincing and tepid.

My definitive ranking of Bonds:
Connery
Craig
Lazenby
Moore
Dalton
Brosnan

reply

My favorite Bond's are Connery and Brosnan.

Everyone else is watchable though.

reply

Its ironic that Brosnan was at his best in Die Another Day, probably the most widely hated Bond movie.

reply

QOS makes DAD look like an Oscar winner.

reply

No, Quantum of Solace is one of the most misunderstood films. It had problems, mostly related to editing, but its much better than given credit for. Now that Craig's run is over, and I've seen all his Bonds, I think QoS is the second best Bond of his (after Casino Royale), which is a bit surprising because I didn't think very highly of it when I saw it for the first time.

reply

The editing doesn't bother me as much as how boring the plot is. The Bolivian locations are ugly, the villain is laughable. DAD while not a good movie, has some redeeming parts to it.

reply

Disagree about the villain and plot. Doesn't need always to be a giant with metal teeth or a mad man with a plot to destroy the whole world. Quantum was a great criminal organization and they should have continued with it. Instead they sadly got rights back to Spectre and Blofeld and ruined the storyline. Skyfall could and should have been a standalone story, like Goldfinger between From Russia with Love and Thunderball. They had a good thing going, but they dropped the ball. No Time to Die was surprisingly good all things considered, but it had to deal with story set in two prior Sam Mendes pictures.

reply

Ian Fleming wanted David Niven to play 007.

reply

I seriously hope you're joking. That's an awful list.

Pierce Brosnan is an excellent James Bond.

So you rated George Lazenby as the 3rd best 007??? ROFLMAO!

George Lazenby is by far the worst James Bond ever and his movie is by far the worst James Bond ever as well.

reply

haha, that like I said is the Definitive List, an informed and worldly Bond fan.
What praytell, is your list of ranked-Bonds?

reply

Nah! Your list is NOT Definitive at all. It's just wrong, mate. LOL!

reply

To each their own...
You will eventually come around, based on your life experience.

What is your list?

reply

Nah, you are becoming desperate.

George Lazenby is absolutely pathetic.

reply

Lol, Lazenby might be the worst, but OHMSS is regarded as one of the very best Bond films.

reply

LMAO!

OHMSS is regarded as one of the worst ever James Bond movies.

The movie is bloody awful and boring.

reply

That's nice but many don't share your opinion. In a 007 magazine film poll, OHMSS was rated the greatest Bond film. Chris Nolan also considers it his favourite Bond film.

reply

Drama parts of OHMSS still work today, but action shows it's age.

reply

You could say that about any Connery title tbh.

reply

BillySlater, that's nice but most don't share your opinion.

That 007 magazine film poll is laughable. It has no credibility at all.

OHMSS is rated and it really is the worst James Bond movie ever made.

reply

Nolan, one of the greatest filmmakers ever, considers it the best of the series. You might consider a poll "laughable" but its evidence that "most" people don't share your opinion on OHMSS.

reply

BillySlater, that's nice but most don't share your opinion.

That 007 magazine film poll is laughable. It has no credibility at all.

OHMSS is rated and it really is the worst James Bond movie ever made.

reply

That 007 magazine film poll is laughable. It has no credibility at all.

😂 Brilliant!

reply

Brilliant and magnificent!

😂

reply

Despite everyone here saying "mine is the definitive list," there can be no right answer to this. It's all preference.

For me, it goes

Connery -- the one true Bond
Brosnan
Craig
Moore
Dalton
Lazenby

reply

It's not everyone, just me ;)

You have a fine list.
Just give it some time and you will come around to realize i am right.
I think the issue is Brosnan is he is plastic looking, too pretty with no charisma and completely unconvincing as a tough guy.
Other than that, he is a good Bond.

reply

I agree about Brosnan, that's what I've been saying for a long time. Some people just don't have taste.

My ranking of Bond actors:

Connery / Moore / Craig -- They are all great in their own way
Dalton
Lazenby
Brosnan

reply

Your taste is awful.

George Lazenby is by far the worst James Bond movie ever made.

reply

Harry, did you know that several filmakers including Christopher Nolan covet On Her Majesty's Secret Service, going out of their way to obtain original prints? This is because it is cinematically shot. Also, the music was stolen in this film and used on the lesser No Time to Die.

When your tastes improve and mature, you will come around. Give it time lad.

reply

JohnBraun604, your taste is horrendous.

On Her Majesty's Service is an abomination and it's the worst 007 movie ever made.

You need to get better raste dude.

reply

Agreed.

reply

Thank you.

reply

All the Bond actors have been good in their own way. The correct ranking is:

Dalton
Connery/Moore
Craig
Brosnan
Lesbian

Brosnan is just too effete for Bond, he’s not remotely physically intimidating and his films were dumb (albeit entertaining)

Dalton wins and The Living Daylights is the best Bond film, seems to be some confusion about that on here.

reply

I almost barfed when I read your list. I think you are mistaking inspired filmaking for a truly great film.
Whenever they change Bonds, there is anticipation.
Living Daylights was ABSOLUTELY a great debut for Dalton... but look at what he had to top...a tired and flacid A View to a Kill with a geriatric Bond, expectations were so low, so Living Daylights really shined. I agree it is a better Bond film but far from the best.

Casino Royale, fired on all cylinders that is unmatched by many other Bond films.
Dalton has more charisma than Brosnan, not saying much. He is tougher looking, but simply doesn't have the appeal.

Didn't he look a bit off in Licence to Kill?

reply

Don’t worry, you're just barfing up all that wrong, happens when you read something blasphemous but true.

I notice your post ends in the middle of a sentence, you OK?

reply

haha, not really. I did take a quick rewatch of Living Daylights. Check out my comments there.

reply

i disagree Brosnan is second behind Craig and Moore # 3 for me as Bond

reply

You will eventually come around when you have upped your appreciation of film. Give it some time.

reply

dont lecture me about me film i have watched Kurosawa,Anderson,Scorsese,Gerwig and Coopola

reply

and...you didn't learn much.

reply

Film performances are Subjective please I have gotten appreicate "Slow Scenes" I know good exposition dump from a bad one there is a reason why Skyfall is one the highest rated Bond films please bet you didnt half of these films also Kurosawa didnt redub it forces you too watch characters emotions and focus on dialogue once again please do lecture and i hate your holier than thou attitude.

reply

I do like Kurosawa. Please tell me you like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull over Irishman.

reply

Switch Dalton and Craig on that list

reply

Dalton is too….stuffy.
And his 2 films were cheap-looking.
He was just, meh.

reply

Dalton is very British and belongs more on TV. He should be in a TV-remake of British Series Avengers where he belongs. He is more charismatic and rugged than Brosnan (not saying much), but just not leading man material. I agree - meh.

Craig is the best after Connery. You must be angered after the two frustrating dry -turds Spectre and the unforgivable No Time to Die (franchise killer). I know I am.

reply

100% agree.

Connery best....Craig second, hands down.

Casino Royale was a masterpiece.

reply

You sir,
Have GREAT TASTE :)
