Holy bat shit that was bad

First time watching in 2 decades. I recalled not liking it but didn't think it was this bad. It had a great cast but it had terrible writing, scenes that were completely illogical and ridiculous over the top villains. And yeah Nicholson and Devito hammed it up some but Jones and Carrey took it to a campy Adam West era Batman level.

The first 2 Burton entries still hold up for me. Keaton will always be the best Batman. Gonna rewatch Clooneys Batman next. It's been 2 decades since i've watched that one too but it can't be as bad as Batman forever.

Batman 4 is way worse

I don't know if it was as bad as Batman forever but yeah it sucked much worse than i recall. Burton had a unique visually appealing style and tone. Schumacher clearly lacked the talent to replicate that and instead went full on campy and cartoony. I half expected cheesy word bubbles to pop up in the fight scenes with plow, zap or kerplunk like in the old campy West series.

I don't have a problem with Batman Forever (although it's nowhere near as good as Burton's movies), and I thought Kilmer was a good Batman. Batman & Robin however is utter crap.

I thought Kilmer was a decent Batman/Bruce Waybe. It had a great cast all around. Kilmer, Jones, Carrey and Kidman are all top notch talented actors. They just had a terrible script to work with.

It had a great cast, a great director and a great soundtrack but they screwed it up.

There was too much studio meddling owing to Warner Bros giving Tim Burton carte blanche to do whatever the fuck he wanted with 'Returns' thus he served up a weird Burton movie instead of a Batman movie, so to avoid a repeat of this they put the shackles on Schumacher and forced him to make a cartoon piece of fluff summer film with no substance or edge.

The only good Batman I've seen is Batman 89. The rest are mediocre to crap.

I just rewatched it for the first time in years. There's a good film in there somewhere but the studio definetly meddled with it. I'd really like to see the 2hr and 15 minute cut with the added scenes and more mature tone. For example in that the security guard isn't coming out with crap like "Oh no, it's boiling acid!". And instead of wash fu, Robin's punching a wooden dummy with a picture of Two-Face on it.

One thing I forgot is how from the very first frame in which she appears, Nicole Kidman wants to pounce on Batman. It cracked me up because apparently the studio thought Returns was too sexual and here you get Kidman playing the horniest woman in any Batman film.
