monica transistions into sociopath?

[i'm not a friends fan at all, started watching not long ago and it is funny entertainment to me]

after monica gets with chandler, feels like she becomes this lost crazy peronality.
is it just me?
she's all yelling and crying and fighty or whimpy just all over

reply

I prefer to think of it as her finally being herself when she found love.

reply

yeah that's fair. i think she straightens out later if I recall. just seems like such a character leap to me

reply

She was written as a neatness freak just like Danny Tanner from Full house.

reply

There's always been an obsessive and competitive nature in her personality, which I never liked, but that's just how the character was constructed to be.

reply

True but watching these later shows, there's a lot more whining and crying. Not just her but others too. I get it. Need more conflict so the are infighting more than the past.
Still some decent comedy in it and it's enjoyable

‘Mondler’ should have never happened. It was fine as a one-off gag (as it was originally intended) but making them get together killed the best aspect of Friends - Chandler and Joey living together. If Chandler ended up with anyone it should have been Kathy, and Monica was much better paired with Richard.

Also, Phoebe should have ended up with David.

reply

Yeah.... we got what we got. Oh well :)

all that.

Aside from the follies of her dating relationships, there wasn't much left to Monica besides her eccentricities. When they permanently shacked her up, they had to double down on that. I like her and Chandler as a couple but I think they pulled the pin on that grenade a little too soon. But maybe they didn't think the show would run for ten years. Their relationship gave a lot more character arcs to Chandler than it did her.

reply

I honestly felt there was no chemistry between Chandler & Monica and that it was a relationship of convenience

reply

Yeah, pretty much all of the characters got flanderized, but she was extra bad.

reply

Sociopaths have little emotion and probably wouldn't yell or cry much if at all.
