saw this as a kid and thought it was good. since then i saw many people jerk it off online, especially val kilmer's role. then recently i saw it again. this movie is a piece of shit. first of all, the protagonists are assholes and crooks. how can anyone even side with them? they were cops but they were abusing their power. it's not even an interpretation, they said it in the movie. kurt russell's character said it, "it was our turn[to get rich]." they basically forced the outlaws to fight. then once they did fight, we got the most ridiculous looking gunfight scene ever. the movie also included a super long romantic horse riding scene that looked ridiculous. the only good scene in the movie was indeed val kilmer spinning the cup in the casino. that's it.
That's because it had a lot of problems during filming. Kevin Jarre, one of Hollywood's more talented writers, was supposed to direct it, but was then fired during filming.
Kurt Russell was told to take over by the studio but instead he phoned his friend Sly Stallone and asked him to recommend a director who he could order around and Sly said to get George P. Cosmatos (who was credited with directing Cobra and Rambo II but it was actually Sly). Most of the actors say that it was Kurt calling all the shots and that he basically directed all of it.
It's a dog's breakfast of a film, it's disjointed and the storyline is confusing, but it's still not bad. It does have Kurt Russell, Bill Paxton, Val Kilmer, Michael Biehn, Powers Boothe, Sam Elliott, Charlon Heston. That's an unbelievable line up worth watching.
fucking finally someone that has a rational thought here. i can totally appreciate your perspective on it although i don't agree that it's even an ok movie. there was hardly anything redeemable other than val kilmer and even then, only in some scenes. i just see too many people jerking off the movie like it's supposed to be one of the best western. it can't be. russell directing explains the long and corny scene of him riding a horse with his love interest. it was insane.
also on a side note, stallone is such an interesting hollywood character. he looks and acts like a meathead but he's extremely talented with a trifecta of acting, writing and directing. he also acts like an asshole in his personal life too.

Good to see someone on the same wavelength.
I didn't know Tombstone had lots of people jerking off over it. It's a reminder that if you don't have a leader on set then things fall apart. It should've been much better. It's pretty forgettable.

That's the best ever description I've read of him. Sly basically knows how to write simple stories with heart, which can be hard to do as many film-makers are self indulgent snobs who mess around, but Sly films just get right to the point.
In terms of acting like an asshole, he has admitted that he was super vain at his 80s peak, I think someone said he even had a giant bronze statue of himself erected in his mansion. He certainly had an ego, but he has the type of talent you don't find anymore in films so he kinda earned the right to act like a douche.

namely redditors. they act like it's an incredible movie. they made me want to rewatch it and it pissed me off because it wasted my time. lol. also it has a 7.8 on imdb so that's supposedly a legitimately good movie. it's not. people are fucking blind.
as for stallone, there's one story that's completely unforgivable for me. i forgot who but he had his wife or gf get breast implants. i guess he pressured her too but that's never said. in the middle of the operation, he bursts in the operating room and forces the doctor to upgrade her cup size by like 2 sizes or some shit like that. he did that because she refuse to go up sizes. the doctor does it too. it's absolutely disgusting and insane that the doctor even complied. it's criminal. still, i dont hate him as an actor and i still enjoy all his works. even his new show is highly watchable although it's fluffy. it's still fun. there arent too many man's show these days.
Reddit is full of rejects, i'm not surprised they think it's amazing.
Seriously?! That is too fuckin funny haha. Rushing into the OR like a madman and demanding bigger implants is like something from a Mel Brooks movie. What a crazy guy!
I loved that recent story that came out about pamela anderson claiming that stallone offered her a sports car and luxury condo if she'd basically be his secret hump slave. I'd give him a pass since all that juicing in the 80s probably shrunk his brain. His mum and dad were meant to be nuts as well, so that doesn't help
even his new show is highly watchable although it's fluffy.
Is that the family Stallone, the one with his daughters?
