Why was Doc’s lady pushing him so hard...

She was clearly trying to push him to an early grave. Inheritance? Did Doc Holiday have much money?

Apparently Doc had 40,000 bucks on him when he came to Tombstone (in real life). So yeah, Kate wanted that cash as soon as he passed away.

I think she was just doing what she always did. Probably why he kept her around. In her misguided way she was just trying to help. She is the Antichrist though, so what do I know.

reply

Money was definitely a motivation/preoccupation of hers, though her feelings for Doc were probably genuine.

reply

I definitely believe that her feelings were genuine. And I think she probably felt like Doc's best chance of staying alive was to keep moving.

There seemed to be real affection but there was also a financial dimension. She mentioned once that she took care of him better than any other, while squeezing his crotch. My guess she was a good-time girl who saw in him an opportunity to improve her lot and recognized that, in his sickly state, he could use an assistant and nurse. He both liked and needed her.

There is a deleted scene you could check out between Doc and his girlfriend.

Thanks. She claims to be his woman and he claims to be her meal ticket (but nothing more). Doc doesn’t seem to think she cares for him beyond his money and lacks affection for her. She’s shocked by his callousness. It still seems possible she cared for him more than he realized or cared to acknowledge but, if so, the feeling evidently wasn’t mutual.
