Hasn't aged well

It's on tv again and I just can't find it funny like I used to. Unlike Seinfeld, which still is hilarious, this has aged fairly badly.

To me, it just smacks as a poor mans I Love Lucy, or a "Jewish" I Love Lucy.

And I can't help but think that Fran and Niles are incredibly unprofessional for service staff.

Plus the audience is out of control. Was it a five drink minimum to be in the audience? They laugh at stuff that is mildly funny at best as though its Eddie Murphy doing standup.

Your sense of humor might have changed over time, do you think that your sense of humor is the same now then it was in the 1990's?

reply

I think it has changed, but hey, Seinfeld still packs a punch.

reply

You might be right but I have not much have watched Seinfeld but i am glad that you enjoy it

reply

To each their own, I suppose. I don't find Seinfeld terribly funny but there are several episodes of The Nanny that make me laugh out loud, even on repeat viewings.

Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end.

reply

I was watching it, waiting for it to kick into gear, and it never did.

reply

Well, Like I said. To each their own. I find The Nanny hilarious. You don't. There's nothing wrong with that.

a few months ago. i did a the nanny marathon. i haven't watched the nanny since it aired on tv so maybe 15 yrs since i last watched it.

when i did the nanny marathon a few months ago. i enjoyed it Alot. i forgot how funny the show was and it was a lot more funnier than i remember. i was in stitches during some episodes. Completely forgot how funny this show was so i disagree with you. i think the show is still funny.

I think what dates the show is fran's clothing. Don't get me wrong. I do think the clothing suits her cos she could make anything look fantastic but i can't imagine anyone past 1995 wearing clothes like that. lol

reply

I think I've grown too intelligent in the intervening years to enjoy it.

reply

Well that is good for you I guess

reply

There are shows that I have outgrown. I don't watch the Nanny often, but when I do it turns into a marathon and I laugh out loud during every episode. I do think the acting isn't always up to par, but the jokes are still funny to me, and I think Fran and Max are cute, and Niles and CC are hilarious. The four of them are all funny in their own way.

reply

It has aged terribly. The more I see it nowadays, the more annoying it gets.

reply

I still like it and watch it from time to time, and it came out decades ago.

reply

I never found it funny back in the day either. I do agree it was like a poor man I Love Lucy. The Butler could steal the show at times though.

Was it a live audience or canned laughter?

reply

I think it was canned laughter, it was always the same type of laugh.

reply

True.

I watched some the other day for the first time since it aired. I was surprised by how much of an old school style sitcom it is. It felt very modern at the time, but it's more akin to 70s/80s. The 90s really produced a mixed bag of throwback formula and new timeless classics. (I also watched some 3rd Rock from the Sun. Same thing. A show that once felt modern is actually quite traditional.)

reply

I feel that old school formula continued into the 2000's. Big Bang Theory had that same feel.
