The best 10 minutes ever filmed?

I've had this conversation a few times with friends, but for me the sequence starting with Duncan's sacrifice and ending with Magua's death is the most brilliant thing I've ever seen on screen. The combination of stunning visuals, a perfect score, and about five very visceral emotional hits.. it just kills me every time.

Granted I haven't seen everything I should have in the world of film, but if you can point me to something else this great, please do :)

Couldn't agree more. The whole film builds up to this with its superb score a director at the peak of his powers and a cast that bats all the way down. The action sequences in this film are, in my opinion, some of the very best ever committed to screen and the end is the most exciting and emotional payoff. Bravura film making!

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

That shot of Magua and Chingachgook facing each other as Magua silently waits for the finishing blow is easily in my top 5 favourite shots ever.

Duncan, giving his life to save Hawkeye so he could be w cora, was a very British thing to do. An American sure as hell wouldnt do that, despite Hawkeyes attempt

Very British then, unsure it would happen now.
An American wouldn't have done it then and wouldn't do it now, but neither would I, and I am a Brit.
Being generous, doesn't mean we haven't an abundance of brave guys in both countries.

You say 10 minutes. I say best 25 minutes. Or 20 anyway. As soon as the violin starts playing, I get pumped every time.

This is the type of story-telling which was once described as "a cracking yarn".
Definitely a movie in my top 5 of all time (and I will not see 50 again!).

Another set in the same century (but not so far brought to the widescreen, with success) is "Kidnapped", and another which should be re-made, and for general release is, "Flight of the Heron",based on the novel of the same name and set in the '45 Rebellion in Scotland.

Absolutely agree. Always said it's the best 10 to 15 min of any movie I ever seen.

The Death of Sgt. Elias in the movie Platoon from 86 is on my top for scenes...

But then again, i was kinda young when i first saw it..

Definitely agree. what an iconic scene, with Barber's wonderful Adagio for Strings playing throughout.

Yes, they are the best 10 mins on film. I have seen it a hundred times...Another great sequence is the restaurant scene in La Femme Nikita..Great scene. I have also seen a hundred times. The music is great, the action, and the acting.
