The best 10 minutes ever filmed?

I've had this conversation a few times with friends, but for me the sequence starting with Duncan's sacrifice and ending with Magua's death is the most brilliant thing I've ever seen on screen. The combination of stunning visuals, a perfect score, and about five very visceral emotional hits.. it just kills me every time.

Granted I haven't seen everything I should have in the world of film, but if you can point me to something else this great, please do :)

"My compliments sir, take her and get out of here!!" -- Duncan

Even Duncan who was seen as ever so "unsavory" in certain scenes managed to redeem himself with his sacrifice to the Sachem. Movie was liquid brilliance.

You are exactly right this. From the moment the old Indian utters his final words and the music starts this is my favourite part of any movie I have ever watched it's truly amazing music. Cinematography, acting it has everything pure genius.

made this account just to reply to this thread.

i wholeheartedly agree. the best 10 mins of cinema for me aswell.

but still i have some more in mind that are pretty good, just not quite up there with this one.

like for example (trying not to spoil much):
the ending in Legends of the Fall - when they all come together to face the baddies
pulp fiction - the diner scene, when they walk out the door, it always strikes a chord, especially when 'surf rider" starts playing
the intro to the way of the gun - that's the whole movie for me right there
LOTR 3 - when the riders from rohan arrive + kings speech then the charge
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly + Once upon a time in the west - final scenes
as someone pointed out before, Unforgiven - going back to the bar
also Blade Runner - tears in rain

that's all i can think off the top of my head, as i said they're good but not as good as this scene!

would like to hear some more about the ones you guys liked, i know there are plenty out there, so pls share your favourites.

How about the scene in the Godfather in which Michael Corleone kills the crooked cop and his father's gangster rival in the nice family Italian restaurant? I never timed it but I've seen it many times and it always gives me goose-bumps.

Another one just has to be the early scene in "Zulu" as the small garrison at Rorke's Drift awaits the 4000 Zulu impis, then watch on the ridge and hillside as they walk forward or rise from the tall grass. Talk about tension. My heart was thumping about outta my chest!

Wow, I forgot about that scene, totally agree with you that it is powerful! But so many in the Godfather ...

Those 10 minutes is just legendary, unforgettable.

i feel the same way. i have said it many times to anyone who will listen. i often show that clip to people. it's the most brilliant ten minutes and the strongest ending of any movie i have ever seen. it's perfectly done, the context is just right, and all the elements are arranged perfectly (music editing etc)

another great ten minutes is the final gunfight in ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST it is probably my number two all time ending. same thing, music editing timing and mostly CONTEXT with the big reveal that comes.
