Whatever happened to the kinky, erotic movies...

...that once were so big in the late 80’s and early 90’s?

9 1/2 Weeks, Wild Orchid, Basic Instinct, Sliver, Body of Evidence, Boxing Helena, etc, etc...?

I suppose the recent Hillary Swank movie (Fatale) is somewhat of an attempt at the genre...(though it was very light on the erotic part).

The premise of discreet infidelity has always been a titillating storyline, but when you look at the genre today it has migrated to reality TV format so just like old school TV dramas that were so prevalent before the dawn of Internet streaming the movie studios don't find much financial prospect in these types of movies.

Or the thriller in general..They were big in the 80's and 90's and very entertaining.
I suppose they went the way of reality shows too.

Unnecessary.

Men and women now have easy access to pretty much unlimited porn. This has changed society in interesting ways, one is sexuality on film. The 1980's had numerous (some very bad) T&A flicks that were sold to horny teens (including myself) these movies have gone the way of the dinosaurs, because they will not make dime one for Hollywood. Men and women can now get their rocks off with a click of a button.

While access to porn may have impacted the adult market for titillation movies, I would bet that making Porky's type movies which were just T&A comedies aimed at teens would still make money.

reply

A lot of factors include the easy access to porn on the internet, less willing actresses who don’t want to be naked on screen, and the Puritan Left who runs Hollywood that consider these movies sexist. I wish the genre could make a comeback because I think it could be interesting to see how they would be made today. I’d love to see a remake of Showgirls but there’s little to no chance it could happen.

I was reading these replies thinking "oh , at least something isnt the fault of leftys"
but then this
" the Puritan Left"
Just fascinating , that you can take a core right wing value and call it a left thing when you want o blame something on the left

reply

You’d think the people who run Hollywood who’s perversions and moral degeneracy know no boundaries could make erotic thrillers again but they claim the moral superiority in not making them and we all know that is a lie.

Marvel

The infantilization of audiences is what happened.

reply

Yep. Now you have to dumb it all down as well as not offend or exclude anyone. Well, you can exclude some, you just have to make sure they are the right someone's.

reply

They stopped making money. Sure you had the neocons and feminists complaining about tits and ass, but as long as they made money I don't think the studios cared.

reply

Society got boring and now the only way you could do it would be to have Alphabet people in the roles and some kind of battle they are waging against the mythical patriarchy.

They kind of did it with 50 Shades but even that wasn't erotic in the same way as the 80's and 90's erotic thrillers.
