NON-CANON pile of SHIT

The Alien franchise ended with Aliens: Ripley, Newt, Hicks and Bishop all went to sleep on the Sulaco and eventually ended back on Earth where they all lived happily ever after. THE END.

Except that is not what happened. If you want the non cannon alternative, check out the Alien III audio drama. That is what could have been the cannon continuation of the story (it’s pretty good with some of the old cast coming back to voice their characters). Unfortunately none of us get to decide what is and is not cannon, nor do we get to decide what that story ‘should have been.’

That being said, Alien III the movie is cannon no matter how much you dislike it. I have to be brutally honest here. Alien III is the only movie in the entire series that I avoid rewatching. I dislike it because it is depressing, both thematically and visually. Even though I dislike it, the movie is still cannon. So let’s stop lying to ourselves and relax.

For me, Alien III paved the way for Alien Resurrection, a movie I absolutely loved. Now I look at the Alien films like this:
1. Alien: Top tier science fiction horror
2. Aliens: Top tier science fiction action/ suspense
3. Alien III: Tense, depressing, science fiction drama
4. Alien Resurrection: Top tier cheesy science fiction action parody.

Each movie tries to do something different, and not all succeeded as well as some of the others. So, if you want to call Alien III a pile of S#%t, I think that’s completely fair. What they did in the beginning with Hicks and Newt shocked and angered me. even so, I think you dislike Alien III quite a bit more than I do.

true.

but then we wouldn't get bald Ripley

lol.

that like people saying the prequels arnt cannon because they dont like it.

same logic. everything is cannon deal with it. the only thing not cannon is something like rings of power where its so far from the source material there isnt any similiarity

Rings of Power is beyond non-canon. Disney Star Wars is not canon but Rings of Dogshit is so bad it's in a separate category altogether. It's more of an insult to the fans and to Tolkien's legacy than non-canon.

It's canon.

With each of the four Alien films with Ripley, the studio wanted to go in different directions for each one, not just make another Alien or Aliens.

When you think about it, by the time they were ready to return to the Alien world with 3, the young actress who played Newt had grown up too much to reprise her role (and had far moved on from acting in real life) and they probably got rid of the Hicks character to place the prison characters in greater peril and isolate Ripley further.

Had they made it in, say 1988 or 1989, it might have had a better chance but I think Carrie Henn would still have been too much older to have Newt come out of hypersleep for a continuation of that story.
