Original storyline question... I hope!

Do you think Tyler's response to finding out Johnny was a cop was warranted? Or do you think it was a slight overreaction? How she fired the gun and just barely missed him while he was asleep. Have you ever given it any thought how you would respond if you were in her shoes? I find it interesting to ponder how a relationship could go on under such circumstances. What do you think?

I’d say it was a massive red flag that she was emotionally unstable.
Of course she had every right to be upset, Johnny lied to her and betrayed her trust and vulnerability, but her reaction was completely unwarranted, imo.

It would have been unwarranted if she actually shot him. That was a wake up call. This is a cops and robbers movie. The surfer girl whose ex is a surfer/bank robber and whose friends are as well resemble a family and then to find out her new bf is an undercover cop out to get them. And with that in mind, the big reveal is that she’s been used. Her reaction doesn’t stand out as you say as it follows the tone of the whole movie.

But did Tyler know that Bodhi and his gang were bank robbers? That's something I've never thought before. How well she knows them, or even how long she's known Bodhi for, is never revealed. She certainly didn't seem to be part of their plans to travel on the money. In fact i don't think she even knew that they were about to leave.
Therefore i'm assuming she didn't know about their criminal activities. I figure her and Bodhi were just a fling that summer. He travels around a lot and doesn't get too serious - understandable given his lifestyle.
Like dancinginthedark says above, it was more about his deception and betraying her trust. Using her parents' death as an "in" was especially low

I don’t think Tyler knew about the gang of robbers. She had to have wondered if Utah was FBI then he’s there for a reason which means she must be the pawn. I also am pretty sure she had no idea that Bodhi would ever threaten her life and hold her hostage, which I think is the ultimate betrayal.
Her character played by Petty looked upfront to be a hard edge savvy feisty female but ended up being just another girl not very sharp and too trusting. She got caught up with bad boyfriends and luckily one of them saved her life and saved her from doing time. A woman with a tough exterior having to be saved waving a gun around.

Well you've got the circumstances of finding out your girlfriend fires guns in the house when she's upset.

... and you've got the circumstances of finding out your boyfriend not only has lied about his whole past (and present)(and parents!) , but doesent love you at all, has totally used you, and is only sleeping with you for a quick bonus fck whilst spying on your friends.

yeah I'd say the gunshot was warranted, she didnt even shoot until he'd pissed her off further with his explanation/excuses

No. It is inappropriate to ever point a firearm at a person UNLESS they are threatening your home or family. Then I suppose you do what you think needs doing, surrender peacefully to responding law enforcement and hire the best lawyer you can afford.

A firearm is NOT a toy, you could really hurt someone if you behave foolishly.
