How does everyone feel about Doughboy?

Yeah i know he was a gangsta but don't you think he had feelings too? And just wanted to be loved by someone? Being as though his mother never showed him any love at all. And took favor to Ricky over him? Do you think he needed someone in his life to care about him?

Doughboy was my favorite character in the movie. Was he a gangsta? Yes, but he was a product of his environment and his mother treated him like *beep* his whole life and his own brother didn't seem to care for him very much either. Like someone else said, he used his boys to replace the family life he never had. Underneath it all, he was a pretty nice guy (yes I know he murdered at least 3 people, but that's what he was "supposed to do" in his world).

Least favorite character: Ricky. What a dumb ass that fool was. Take away his football talent and he would've been the biggest loser in the entire group. Even if the SAT is biased, he was still dumb enough not to even bring a pencil to it. Smh.

"Take away his football talent and he would've been the biggest loser in the entire group."

This is a rude statement. What if he had a learning disorder? What if his lack of a father figure also affected him into being a man? Doughboy wasn't the only one affected, Ricky was too. The mother failed Ricky as well by not helping him get his priorities straight. Maybe he wouldn't have been a teen father or not very good at school if his mother wasn't only impressed with his skills on the field. School isn't everything, there is also common sense and wisdom and the mother passed none of that to her two children. It isn't just the schools job to teach your children, it is mostly yours.

He seemed the most grown up of the 'kids', he didn't have a father figure but he did the most with the least, head on his shoulders.

I think he just wanted a path in life that he could consider worthwhile but nothing much ever opened up for him.

I feel that he'd never be able to afford such an awesome car.

Yeah candyliciousxox , I do feel for Doughboy very much. He was just born from the wrong walking baby factory - I mean mother, that's all.

Doughboy clearly had his flaws. he was a drug dealer/user and was probably involved in one of the main gangs BUT i do think he would have liked to liev a straight life. he had no father and a mother who clearly didnt care for him. The only time he killed was when they killed his brother and ou can tell taht taking a life(even a murder's life) affected him. So even though he wasnt a innocent guy i still felt he never a had a chance

Doughboy was my favorite character in the movie. He obviously had a lot of problems in his upbringing that sent him down a rough path, but he clearly meant well and was a well written character.

I don't understand why the mother played favorites over Doughboy and Ricky. A mother should love her children reguardless. I really did feel for Doughboy even after Ricky died the mother didn't care for him still.

reply

She was a bitch and treated them differently because she liked Ricky's father more than Doughboy's father.

She even told doughboy as a kid "You're just like your daddy. You ain't *beep* and never gonna amount to *beep*

reply

Yes, he was a product of his environment and never stood a chance. His mother was an evil bitch who openly resented him and favored Ricky. She was very cruel to Doughboy and never showed him any love. He had a lot of built up anger and resentment which is to be expected. I've always felt sorry for him.

reply

Definitely. He was misguided and was a product of his environment. Neglected by his own mother who favoured his half-brother over him at all times, where at the same time, he looked to be a man of code and honor.

He always did look out for Ricky and his mom, no matter what the situation. Cue the scenes where Ricky gets shot and where the Agent comes to talk to him.

Apart from that, I think if he had someone like Furious over his head to watch over him, I don't think he'd turn out to be as bad. If you notice, he does mention he liked reading in Jail and he liked talking about religion, He was fairly inclined intellectually. But he never got an opportunity nor an outlet to expres it.

Best character in the film. Most interesting.

Take nothing away, nothing.

Loved him maybe the best part of the movie and the fact that was ICE CUBE's first acting role about a year after he left NWA is crazy!!! he was great. The character needed more love from his mom.
