Late to this party, but for the record, this film and most of the others mentioned in this thread are inexorably derivative of Carnival of Souls. It should be noted that Carnival of Souls quite obviously drew its inspiration from a Twilight Zone episode called The Hitch-Hiker. Still, highly recommended viewing, just be prepared for some earmarks of low budget film making.

I don;t know how the hell nobody has mentioned 'Rosemary's Baby' yet, the tone is so similar they could have both been made by the same crew.

As far as I can remember this film was about one man's acceptance of death, perception of death and letting go to move on so I think that The Fountain by Aranofsky is similar in this theme.

if you're willing to venture to the small screen, the star trek shows have done a number of similar episodes over the years, that really mess with your mind.
Most of the ones I know are from TNG:
-the most obvious, and best, one is 'frame of mind' from the 6th season. your head will be swiss cheese when the episode is done.
-'future imperfect,' 4th season
-'remember me,' 4th season
-'eye of the beholder,' 7th season
-'ship in a bottle,' 6th season
-'schisms,' 6th season

there's a DS9 episode called 'hard time' from the 4th season that's a great psychological thriller.

enterprise had an episode called 'twilight' from the 3rd season that bounces all over the timeline.

OK, I specialize in this type of horror. Judging by your picks you should be of the age to remember the 1968/69 hidden gem "The Cremator" (Czech) Found it by digging deep for Psychological Horror.

Last I checked, it was on YouTube for free in full with English subtitles.

Enjoy!
