Just re watched after ten years. Still a Tour de Force. Full marks from me. Can't believe folk give it jive. May the 1000 foot wave take them like Bohdi.
share9 EC. We need more sub-films!!
Edit: WOW! Many kids in this thread, well in the beginning!? Stopped reading after page 3:-(
I rate it highly. I have loved this movie since it came out and the directors cut improves it, it is one of my all time favorite adventure films. Great characters, good dialogue and, as others have mentioned, contains scenes of raw emotion and tension like few films ever achieve. It's not without it's flaws story wise, but does not detract from the deep immersion (pun intended!) this film provides.
When contrasted with the modern, overblown comic book style movies of today this movie delivers on all fronts. A terrific cast, great directing, unique environment and heart and soul. I'll never understand the "too long and boring" argument. It doesn't play that way for me at all. It's a solid film that sadly underperformed and represents more of what movies should be like. It's a gem in an ocean of modern CGI crapfests.
10 out of 10. It was always in my top 5.

I can see someone giving it a 7, but the metascore of around a 60 is pretty dumb, seeing how high some other movies have for that's core.
8,5 out of 10 ,and i think its a little underappreciated
Trolls dont have an opinion....just an urge to compensate their frustration about themselves!!!
Perfect 10. One of the best movies I have seen, and I've seen a lot.
shareI would give it a 7/10. It's not perfect, but the film gets more things right than it does wrong. There is a really strange anti-war message that gets a little muddled and never really comes together. Cameron didn't know how to end the film either.
On the other hand, the casting choices and performances were excellent. James Cameron is a great director of actors and it shows in this film. Ed Harris and Mary Mastrantonio are excellent as an onscreen couple here. This movie might also be Michael Beihn's best performance ever. The film was a watershed moment for special effects. The score is awesome too.
I think that this is a very good film even if the ending is a little melodramatic and confused.
Very good - 8.5
