As realistic as trickle down economics

A cop beating trained soldiers, yeah right.

reply

For all any of us know he could have been in the military for a while before being a cop.

reply

I don't recall any of the bad guys being trained soldiers. Hans is a former terrorist, and I assume his henchmen are a combination of ex-terrorists, criminals, and/or mercenaries.

Besides, even if they were all trained soldiers, it isn't like they're engaged in conventional warfare. McClane is trying to pick them off individually or in pairs, hoping to outsmart them rather than just go in guns blazing.

reply

I figured that since most of them are European they would have to been in the military in order to be proficient with firearms- I understand Europe has very effective gun control laws.

reply

In real life, there were members of the Red Army Faction who received training at bases in South Yemen operated by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. That's just one example of how West European terrorists could go outside Europe to train in use of weapons and explosives.

Given Hans' reference to rumors about Arafat's shopping habits during his banter with Takagi, it's possible that he and at least the Germans among his men received similar training.

Yeah, they are not trained soldiers. Mercenaries, yes. He's a veteran, well-trained cop who probably has military training. He recognized how to blow up the C4, for instance.

reply

Never underestimate the power of desperation.

reply

I'd add determination and luck to that.

reply

Yea, its a plot hole

reply

No its not.
Maclaine being surprisingly good at guerilla fighting a bunch of Terrorists is not a plothole, its surprising (or lucky) (or standard actin film mechanincs)

reply

We have different definitions of what a plot hole is I guess

reply

we do . yours is quite broad as I see you posted "plot hole" on lots of threads.
mine is more ... whats the word ... correct?

Something "a bit unusual" happening in a movie is not "a plot hole" obvoiusly!
A plot hole is when something happens that makes subsequent plot:
a) impossible
b) redundant
c) possibly other stuff , but not "unusual"

One of the other threads you posted "plot hole!" on , I totally agree with.
The one saying "no way the tower could fool all those planes into staying there" (die hard 2)
That was a totally unrealistic plot device that would never happen - beyond credibiltiy.just makes no sense.

I'm surprised no ones noticed before , if indeed its true that planes can radio each other as well as the tower - and that sounds likely to me.

reply

Yes in Die Hard 2, any other airport could have got in communication with the planes flying above. Its one of the biggest plot holes of all time I think

reply

Yours is simply wrong.

reply

As mentioned a plot hole is a contradiction.

But this isn't a contradiction. In the world the film is set mcClane is good at what he does and one can presume he's had training, possibly some military wise.

reply

Ummm go watch John Wick and than comeback here you deleted loudmouth..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

reply

Realism? it's a fun 80s action movie starring Bruce Willis in his prime. End of story.
