Of all the wars, Vietnam inspired the greatest films
Either Vietnam or World War 2.
Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, First Blood, etc

You're right. I can't think of a classic movie about the Korean War.
share the only 2 wars that get great movies are WW2 and Vietnam.
would love to see an epic movie about WW1 or Korean or the Gulf wars.
Funny that the Revolutionary War hasn’t clicked on the big screen. There’s one movie with Mel Gibson called “Patriot” but that’s it.
shareThere are a few, but most are 1950s or earlier. Try "Revolution" from 1985. Al Pacino plays the lead, which is a little off, as Italian immigrants to the USA were probably rare to nonexistent in that era. Other than that, it's a good movie.
shareThere's a bunch of good American Civil War movies out there. Gettysburg, Gods and Generals, Glory to name a few.

WW1: Check out Paths of Glory (1957), Gallipoli (1981), and 1917 (2019).

Funny you should mention Wings since I literally just got it on blu-ray. Can't wait to see it for the first time.
All Quiet on the Western Front certainly deserves to be included.
But, Paths of Glory is the best WW1 film.

Look above :)
shareI have seen Paths of Glory, its ok, wasnt my favorite. I also seen All quiet on the western front, both versions. I liked the 1979 version the best, it was a pretty good movie. Havent seen Gallipoli yet, but was wanting to buy it. I didnt really like 1917, it was more about one person than the entire War. I would like to see an epic war movie about WW1 in the style of Saving Private Ryan/Fury, realistic and gritty.
I watched a documentary a while back about WW1 and they talked about all the tunnels that were dug underground, I had no idea. And then the other side would dig a tunnel under theirs and set off dynamite. There has to be some good stories to tell. Just dont think Hollywood or directors these days are interested in telling stories or events from back then.
I still want to see They shall not grow old, I missed when it was at the theater.
The reason you don't see so many WW1 movies compared to WW2 is because the first world war didn't have a clear good guys (allies) vs. bad guys (axis) scenario. Still, we have had a few great films, and the closest to Saving Private Ryan is Paths of Glory in my opinion.
Have you seen War Horse?
I have seen War Horse, it was decent. I have seen Flyboys as well. So far the best realistic one is All quiet on the Western Front (1979). What if we got a Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers style movie? A realistic gritty movie that tells a good story and shows the horror of war as well. But at this point I doubt anyone does a good WWI or II war movie.
and I keep forgetting to buy They shall not grow old, dangit, lol
Pork Chop Hill and The Steel Helmet are good 1950s Korean War movies. For the Korean perspective, try "Tae Guk Gi". Truly brutal battles. Think WW1 style trench warfare with WW2 style weaponry.
shareTae Guk Gi is probably my favorite film on the Korean War I’ve seen. If anyone knows of any others that are this well done, please list them.
shareThat's a very American and perhaps younger persons POV. The are some great films about that war (you've listed three) but as an aging Brit my personal favourites are WW2 British film - The Cruel Sea, Reach for the Sky, The Colditz Story, The Dam Busters, Dunkirk (1958), Ice Cold in Alex and many more - even Enigma as a more recent contribution. Of course, I have to accept this is a very subjective opinion and I dare say other nationalities will have lists of equally good films.
shareThe best WW1 films came between the wars; in early 1930’s, All Quiet on the Western Front & Wings both won best picture at the Academy Awards
