Why do old people love Matlock?
Is it really like Grandpa Simpson proclaims? Is Matlock really a hero amongst the elderly?

shareIm 32 now but I started watching Matlock when I was 14 and loved it! I own 1-6 seasons and looking forward to getting the rest of the seasons on DVD.
shareProbably becuase of that generation enjoys it more. Mostly younger people enjoy hip stuff, new age stuff.
I'm 23 and Matlock is my favorite show. I'm not like most people my age, I'm very old fashioned, I enjoy 80's and 80's stuff but don't like much of todays stuff, but that's just me. My Dad loves this show. I have season 1-6 downloaded, and every now and then we watch a few episodes on the computer.
I'm 27. Huge fan of the show. MATLOCK cracks me up!
shareDo some of you posters have trouble reading? The question is "Why Do Old People love Matlock?" Not "Why do ONLY old people love Matlock?"
Many posters are responding with posts like "I am (insert some age under 30 here) and I love Matlock. Does that make me old?" No it does not, but it also does not answer the question.
My mom loved Matlock and my Dad made fun of it. My mom has since passed (not related to her liking of Matlock. At least that is my best guess) but I told my Dad about Grandpa Simpson's reaction and he got a kick out of it.
My thoughts on the question at hand is that as Matlock is an older person that the elderly can relate to. It is nice, no matter who you are, to have hero that has some characteristics that you have.

I will never reveal my age except to say that I’m not a youngster. I love Matlock, but I don’t remember watching it when it was airing weekly in the 80s. But reading these comments, it appears that age doesn’t really matter, despite what Grandpa Simpson says. I think the reason so many people like Matlock is because it’s easy to understand. There are no hocus-pocus CSI moments. Matlock thinks his way through his cases. Imagine, no special effects, no plot twists, no blood-and-gore-decomposing-corpses, no wondering what’s going to happen next week. We all know that real court cases don’t work the way the show portrays them, and that’s part of the appeal. It goes to show that we don’t need to hear endless cussing or see violence to enjoy something, and that is unusual these days. Matlock is good, old-fashioned entertainment and I think that is the reason that it appeals to young and old alike.
The only thing that bothers me are the commercials, usually about walk-in bathtubs, no medical life insurance, chair lifts for stairs for the handicapped, or medical alert plans. I think that’s why people think that “old people” like the show.
@ffnogoodnik – you sound like a cranky old person. Try prune juice.
I'm 27, I've been watching Matlock since I was like 13, and it is still a brilliant show.

Why do young, immature people ( like you) stereotype people? WHy do you think"old people" like Matlock? WHenever anyone stereotypes a whole huge group of people, it shows that you have a small mind. Think , for a change.
Grow up and learn something.
30 year old, grew up watching it and would put it on my all time favorites list along with MASH.
shareHehe I used to watch Matlock with my grandmom when I was like 1. I'm 16 now, and I don't really remember it too much, but apparently I used to really love this show.
