Why Did People Want Europe To Be The Bad Guys in the Remake?

So I know this was a long time ago but I remember about the time I first started on IMDb, back when they'd first announced the Red Dawn remake and there was still hope (how times have changed) on both this board and on the remake's board there were all these people saying Europe/EU should've been the villains.

Anyone know what was up with that? Granted, relations between the U.S. and Europe are a little strained but we're still both part of NATO and closer allies than with Russia or China. Yet it seemed like every other thread was saying either the EU or some new European federation should be the one invading the U.S.

Does anyone else remember that? It seems odd as hell to me.

Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.

probably retard. europe could not invade themselfs.

whole plot of original is whole world fall to communism apart from usa. that is how they have power to invade superpower.

europe could not invade usa. they are collection of ununited country. north korea cannot feed themselfs neverminds invade usa. china would get wipe out if they try to invade america.

All China or North Korea has to do is float 3 balloons over the west, midwest and east with EMP nukes on them, light them off, and this country would be in the 1800s again and ripe for the taking.

im no americans. but usa did not want to win vietnam. no end games.

if vietnam was ww2 then they would invades north vietnam and win war in few year. they could also drop nuclear bomb if they want. but usa did not want to anger soviet allys of north, and know it is not worth effort.

in vietnam war, america was like tough guy in fight with commie wuss half his size. the tough guy know he could pulverize wuss no problem, but he also know wuss father have connection down town and he do not want troubles.

you do not need education to know america did not lose vietnams!!

first - america did not lose single major battle in this war.. america have 10-1 kill ratios in this war. you do lose when you annhilate enemey ahahahahahhahahaa

seconds - vietnan war was stalemate. america did not surrender. they pull out instead. no victory for both side.

third - the north only invade south in 1975 when america leave. they did not defeat american military. they could not defeat american military! they just wait til they leave hahahahaha.

most american consider Vietnam to be loss because they did not win. but if they are not defeated militarily then it is stalemates.
