Why did Jason break Rob's rifle instead of keeping it as a weapon?

He's pretty efficient at slaughtering naked/nearly naked, doped up, sexed up, boozed up teens without a rifle.

Guns make too much noise, while he could have shot someone and others may have dismissed it as a hunter shooting an animal. It would cause people to be on alert, just in case.
