The Homophobia is shocking

Huge Eddie fan here but Good God, I was shocked by the homophobia at the start of this set. It really was unbelievable but I suppose in 1983 the world was still uneducated and bigoted.

I find all of Eddie Murphy's homophobic jokes hilarious, because all I can think about when he's making gay jokes is how much he loves transvestite prostitutes.

Don't skip anything. It's not healthy to fear words.

OP-
In 1983, not everyone was a big baby. People could laugh at themselves and stereotypes about themselves with filing lawsuits. Comedians made fun of EVERYONE, that's why it was funny.

I recommend you rent Tongues Untied (1989), which includes that routine (and one from School Daze), and see how it appeared in the context of the '80s.

Everyone can tell the difference between making a joke at someone's expense, which everyone is subject to, and dehumanizing an entire group of people as Eddie did. It doesn't matter whether you have a thick skin or not; it's bigotry. Thankfully, today it's also stupid and potentially costly for a popular entertainer of any sort to attack a segment of their audience in this way.

Homophobia is throughout the set. But I think it tells a lot about Eddie.

It is more revealing that it is shocking. Tells alot about Eddie and clears up my suspicious. Not that it matters. But a hit dog will holler.
