"Eye of the Tiger"

Anyone else notice how much different this song sounds in the movie than it does when played on the radio? Different singer?

I asked some dude about this on youtube who uploaded the movie version. He told me that they used a demo of the song for the film, which was less polished but much more raw and had a much faster tempo. The official release you hear on radio & mtv was basically a re-recording, more refined and sharp, but lacking the intensity of the demo.

If you watched this movie on PAL (europe) it sounded even faster than the ntsc (usa) version.

Incredible fuckin song, btw. Summed up the tone of the film.

Thanks for the info.
Yes, GREAT song. Perfect for the movie.
But I think I like the radio version better.

You're welcome.

You probably know that Sly wanted Queen's 'Another Bites the Dust' as the film's theme but they said no. Thank god as that song sucks compared to what Survivor (an underrated band) came up with. It really is a perfect song both for the Rocky character and the film's story. You hear that song and feel the kick ass-ness of Rocky III. They're intertwined.

Both versions are great. You don't really notice the difference between both versions unless you watch the movie a lot. Being from Europe, I always thought the faster tempo was down to the PAL/NTSC difference, which makes all songs slightly different.

I like Queen, but I hate AOBTD. EOTT is a perfect fit.

reply

Agreed. I don't know what Sly was thinking, that song (Another one bites the dust) would not have suited the movie one bit and the movie wouldn't have been half as iconic without it. Thank god for survivor haha.

Huh, that's really interesting πŸ‘

reply

It is, I was shocked to read it was a demo used in the movie.

The song "Take my breath away" from Top Gun would have been a more suitable song for this movie though

The only reason I even remember that song is because at the time I had a boss at work who used to CONSTANTLY sing that song to himself in the office and had no idea he was even doing it. It was very amusing when a co-worker finally confronted him about it.

Whatever happened to Berlin anyway?

reply

I heard its a great place to visit

reply

I will hear that song in my head every time I see this film from now on! πŸ˜‚
