Huge Fan - My fav scene is when Belial turns evil and jumps on the window sill and starts screeming, then his eyes turn red. This movie is a classic. TTYL. V

Hey man! right here. Big fan. And vsmith, you're right, that scene is great, That is such a great shot, as said on the commentary. But my favorite part has got to be when we first get the first good look at Belial's face. When he is stuck to the wall. Ohhh, that was great. Not too fond of the sequels though, Basket Case 2 does have a few good scenes. the beggining of BC2 was great, when Duane and Belial were making a "daring" escape. Lol. Didn't know it could be THAT easy. The film would have been great if it just had Belial and Duane on their own, and none of those VERY unrealistic freak people. I've actually never seen number 3, not even henenlotter likes Basket Case 3. Judging from the crap i saw on the trailer, ohhhh no....no way, not even going to bother.

reply

Hey Booman, I haven't seen 2, but 3 was not that good. There are a few funny parts however: Belial has a girlfriend - part human, part blob - who has a bunch of babies. They end up at the police station and a sherrif says " Looks like we've got ourselves a bassinette of baby belials" or something like that ..... very funny. Another fav part in BC I is when the aunt is reading to Duane & Belial, and Belial is all wrapped up in a blanket on her lap ... also love when he's hiding in the toilet when Duane finds him .... TTYL

reply

Turns evil? He seems evil the whole movie if you ask me.

reply

Vsmith is referring to when his eyes begin to glow red. But yes, Belial is already evil. The eye glowing scene is great because it makes Belial more dark and scary, and evil.

Yeah, I enjoy this grindhouse treat. BC 2 was a bit of a disappointment as it went more for laughs than horror, but still it does have its moments. I've yet to see BC 3, but from what I read it sounds fairly whacky.

reply

Looks pretty Terrible. They pushed the whole "freak" thing way too far. I saw in the trailer, the kid with 11 arms. Ohhhh my god...so stupid.

reply

Right - He was evil the whole movie. But the eyes glowing red seemed to show that his jealousy for Duane reached the point to where it put him over the edge and he went even more insane.... By the way, I'm a she ... It's V as in Valerie. I absolutely love movies like these .... TTYL

Was that the boogyman? ... As a matter of fact, it was.

*phew* i thought there wernt that many fans out there, is it sad to want a belial replica....?

Some people moan about how bad this film is. It isn't. It's different and nothing like it has ever been produced after it(I'm not counting the sequels).

21st century Hollywood stinks!!!!!!!!

I agree. This is a guilty pleasure for me because I'm not usually a big fan of horror or exploitation films but this one is outstanding for a couple of reasons, mostly because it is in fact so unnerving and just so incredibly sleazy... few films capture that horrid sleaze of 1970s NYC. This is the closest I have to seen to the "New York is Hell" aesthetic after Taxi Driver.

reply

offcourse there alot of fans of frank hennelotter movies includes basket case.
there has never been made movies like that before.
i hope someday a hennelotter spesial box set comes out with all his films.

watched it tonight, it hasnt become one of my favorites, but I did enjoy it.

i saw this film when I was a student back in 1990. me and my friends thought this film was hillarious.

I remember when he put the video on and I saw the 1st seen where the guy with the glasses is say "oh god who's there, oh god no.." and I was on the floor laughing my head off, it was one of the funniest things ive ever seen and that was only after 1 min of the film.

reply

Great movie! I like the sequels as well.

reply

This is definately one of the best independent horror films of the 80s. I prefer it to both Evil Dead and Bad Taste... it's constantly funny in a sick and twisted way that I really appreciate!

reply

Ahhh they dont make em like they used to.

I subscribe to Netflix, and I just got done watching "Basket Case" and I can honnestly say that this is not that bad of a movie. The only thing that I don't like is that Netflix has "Basket Case 3" and not "Basket Case 2". Is "Basket Case 2" on DVD? I did go to the Hollywood Video website and found out that they do have a copy of "Basket Case 2" but I don't know if they have it on DVD and/or VHS and at what locations. I will just have to go to the Hollywood Video that is close to where I live in Hillsboro, Oregon (1/2 hour driving distance west of Portland, Oregon) and if they don't have it, I will just have to go to a couple of other locations for Hollywood Video and see if they have it. If I cannot find it, that would really disappoint me. I may just have to find a copy on ebay.com or amazon.com or some website like that and buy the movie "Basket Case 2". I don't want to, but if I have to, then I will.

^ save yourself the trouble. the sequels ain't worth the petrol money...

Yea, the opening scene where the scared old fart goes "Who's there? Oh no, GOD no!" - is too funny for words. I love 'Casey', the hot prostitute who tries to befriend Duane (or is it Dwayne?). Of course, Belyle winds up stealing her panties & trying to grope her in her bed!!
Then Duane hooks up with that easy chick he meets at the Dr's office & takes her home (when Belyle gets jealous) and has her in bed....he then throws her out of his room and she screams out "Duaaaaayynne!" - I F'ing love that part too.
And lastly, when that old bastard tries to steal his wad of cash (that he LEAVES LYING AROUND THE ROOM!) & almost gets away with it....but he HAS to look inside that damn Basket! Last mistake he ever makes - Belyle jumps on his head & claws his face apart!!! CLASSIC!!!!!

BASKET CASE - It's Alive in a Basket!

I live in the uk and recently went on a tour of New york film spots and one of them happened to be Where basket case was filmed. Now the actual Hotel Broslin isn't in time square the main lobby parts was filmed in Franklin street in an open service elevator door that was proped open and dressed up to look like a hotel lobby. The actual building now has been modernised and the lift now doesn't face the door exit it has been turned sideways and the staircase has been knocked down......but is still recognisable,i did speak to the buildings owner whilst i was there and he said he bought it back in 97...so i am guessing that the documentery on the "something weird dvd" was filmed about this time......but the door number is still the same. The other location i went to is the exterior shots of the sign where duane & belial was hanging from at the end of the movie.....this was actually shot on hubert st two or 3 streets up from franklin st but the building next door was having scaffolding put up and maybe soon un-recognisable.(sidenote when in the area also check out hook and ladder company 8 fire station just round the corner from franklin street---this is home of the ghostbusters which hasn't changed....please the people are really cool there)
I took loads of pictures of all the locations just simply for film/historical knowledge as New York changes every time i visit there.......

heh, that's pretty cool. I saw Basketcase at some point when I was in high school more than 15 yrs ago. We quoted stupid lines from it for years.
We wanted to see every disgusting and gory movie we could get our hands on at that time, and for some reason we were easily able to. I'm sure it warped my fragile little mind. Belial will always have a special, twisted place in my heart.
Good times.

I just watched this movie last night and thought it was the funniest thing i've ever seen.

reply

I'm a fan. I saw it late last night and wondered how it would hold up since the first time I saw it, many years ago. I thought it was terrific, in that cheapo-shlock kind of way. I had no idea there were any sequels.

reply

Love this movie to death. First saw it at the Waverly (went with a teenage friend when I was 10) been in love with it ever since. This Film and "Don't Go in the house" are probably my 2 favorite American independent horror films of all time. I miss the grindhouse era of cinema. Most fun time in cinematic history.

reply

Quite often I tell people this is my favourite movie of all time. Like them I'm unsure if I am joking or not. There is something unique about this film... It's gory, it's hilarious, it's cheap, sleazy and incredibly surreal and very disturbing... It's like Eraserhead meets Bad Taste...

reply

I keep hearing about this scene with a topless Terri Susan Smith, and how "cool" it is yet I have not found any pictures or clips of this scene. Any help will be appreciated.

reply

Every video version I've seen includes the rape scene...rent the DVD for a couple bucks, or buy it used for a couple dollars more at half.com ...if you have DVD decryptor you can rip the rape scene and watch it over and over ... but to tell the truth it isn't very sexy watching Belial inject his disease into poor Terri Susan...who is actually very nice looking when she's not wearing that crazy wig she's got on in the movie...
