Best theme song.
Was it just me or did anyone else think this show had one of the best theme songs ever?

I agree. I mean it is definitely cheesey, but I still love it. It is a guilty pleasure.
"(insert witty quote here)"
Yes it was a great song and I loved it as well!

This one and the one for WKRP are two of the best for "easy to remember" themes. As for the latter, I liked how they edited the radio version to end with the call letters of the station that played the song.
shareGreat theme song. And for those Seinfeld fans, great 'remake' by George Constanza on his answering machine:
"Believe it or not, George isn't at home.
Please leave a message at the beep.
I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone.
Where could I be?
Believe it or not, I'm not home."

Whoever records the above lyrics with a semi-decent voice will make a million dollars.
sharew/o sounding like a dork (too late)-------AWESOME!!!!!!
BLAH
Without a doubt, the greatest!
shareThis was the best song I can think of. Everytime I hear it it reminds me of when I was younger watching it when it was just premiering new shows.
shareI seem to remember that the theme song was written and sung by Billy Joel. Is that right, or is my memory playing tricks on me?
shareNot ever was it written and sung by Billy Joel......although he is good. It was written by Mike Post and sung by Joey Scarberry who has disappeared into music oblivion. :)
Mike Post did a lot of themes: Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues, Magnum, PI, etc.
Mary E.
I kind of wish that IMDB had more info on theme songs of TV shows, including artist and writers, and whether they were released as singles or on albums, and, if so, how well they may have done on the charts.
I found another web site with lyrics: http://www.stlyrics.com/
I've been singing this theme song to myself at work for weeks. I can't get it outa my head.
I'm 30 years old, and they all think I'm crazy.
(sniff) best show ever... (sob) best theme song ever... (sniff)
I used to have it on 45 rpm vinyl back in the day.
the moon rulz #1
Dude...I had it on vinyl too, and I'm almost 30. I remember the exact day when I smashed it as a kid and how I cried! Beyond a doubt, the greatest theme song ever made. No real second place here. Knight Rider? muppets? Yikes. When I hear the song, it brings tons of memories, like a sense of some time and place in your life. Details about the show are vague, but you remember the senses. Some contenders for best theme based on my criteria might be A team, Cheers, Magnum PI, McGuyver, Hunter, Sopranos, Dallas, Highlander (Queen song), Smurfs (dude, the la-la, la la la la), Andy griffith Show...
