Just proves again how sexist the film industry is.

Go ahead, laught and mock but its true.

EVERY SINGLE other movie I have seen about horses feature a young girl as the main character...

BUT when it calls for a strong character who must struggle to survive.. you guessed it, they cast a boy!

Name me one movie.. JUST ONE movie that features a young girl as a hero. I am not talking about happy go lucky movies like Matilda and The Little Princess.. but survival movies like Lord of the Flies and Black Stallion.
How many? None.

Hollywood will age a female character to get their 'chick flicks' or use boys to satisy their nambla needs. They treat young girls as victims, never heros.

I swear to god, I will sue the crap out of the film industry.

You need to rent National Velvet!

SHe is clearly upset that she didn't get to do the film with that big, black, Arabian stud. She obviously wanted to clean his sheath daily, and eventually ride him in a much different wway than the boy did.

Uuhhhmmm... I think that, although the original poster's opinion is victimist and unnecessary, you don't need to reach this level of crudeness in your answer. You can agree or disagree, but don't be rude.

Now, to answer the original topic: I am a woman, I don't find this or any films where the main character is a boy sexist ( for that reason). Above are tons of examples, when you asked for only one. If women want to be treated as equals ( we are), the first thing to do is stop playing the victim. Stand up for your rights, but don't complain and winge all day about things that happened in the past. Just look at G.I. Jane! Arwen saves Frodo, Galadriel is the Powerful Queen, and Eowyn is pretty good with a sword!
Recently, I thought the sister in The lovely bones was pretty brave. And Bones? And The Closer? And very soon we have Alice in Wonderland...

The OP has a point. Maybe that's why Ballard decided later to make a film with a strong-willed and intelligent young female protagonist.

I read an article long ago that made an interesting point about ET, that while the boy was given the godlike wisdom of the universe, the girl was just told to "be good".

"Let there be songs, to fill the air" ("Ripple")

Perhaps Fly Away Home, also by Ballard.

You seem to have no clue that this film is because of the book series and the main character is a teen aged BOY!!!

So, you believe that the only non-sexist solution is for EVERY SINGLE movie about horses to feature a young girl as the main character.

Can you say "projection"?

If you really want to upset yourself, count the number of female versus male roles in animated movies. It's outrageous. However, this movie is based on a novel that featured a little boy, not a little girl, so it is not a good example of the sexist entertainment industry.

Why Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world... but for Wales?

Since fiction movies are usually based on a book, play, or other similar source, would you have the director, or other person in charge, change the characters to suit you, or to be more politcaly correct?

Imagine "Gone With The Wind" set in Alaska during the gold rush. Something would be lost, don't you think?

By the way, you don't seem to have a problem with the horse being a stallion..hmmm. Let's see now, how about having Mary build the ark and Noah give birth. Do you see some inherent problems with your rant? You are not identified sexually, only by: Tebok73509. What is wrong with the other 23 letters in our alphabet and the other 5 numbers?

I have it on good authority that not all the women who have portrayed virgins on the screen actually were....imagine actors and actresses pretending to be something they are not...now there is a reason to sue!
