Go ahead, laught and mock but its true.

EVERY SINGLE other movie I have seen about horses feature a young girl as the main character...

BUT when it calls for a strong character who must struggle to survive.. you guessed it, they cast a boy!

Name me one movie.. JUST ONE movie that features a young girl as a hero. I am not talking about happy go lucky movies like Matilda and The Little Princess.. but survival movies like Lord of the Flies and Black Stallion.
How many? None.

Hollywood will age a female character to get their 'chick flicks' or use boys to satisy their nambla needs. They treat young girls as victims, never heros.

I swear to god, I will sue the crap out of the film industry.

I replied earlier to this post with 2 films, Island of the Blue Dolphans and Clan of The Cave Bear but later tonight found your more detailed "rant" as you said which isn't so much a rant. You are frustrated and for good reason. Films are slanted and dictate falsehoods as truth, only it's done with such slickness it is near impossible to get another to understand your words when you see things differently. And the more clear your vision is the more frustrating it is as well. It's almost like living in The Twilight Zone! It's also a lot more than the one issue you're bringing up here as you probably know.

Anyway, I saw in your other thread you have seen Island Of The Blue Dolphins so I figure you've really searched since that is a very hard to find film, and you are probably right about Karana being older - I saw it ages ago... I deleted those two replies.

To find films you would find satisfying and honest you may need to look at foreign films. Try this one: Ulvepigen Tinke (2002) from Denmark and Sweden. If this isn't what you would like to see I'll, I'll... I'll rent and watch some piece of Hollywood crap in repentance (You can pick my Hollywood punishment, okay?) and I'll throw ashes on my head while it plays.

Tinke is played by an authentic little female human girl and she is as tough as nails. She will also steal your heart.

I hope you don't stop posting what you honestly believe despite the rude posters who live only to hurl ignorance about followed by their congratulations to themselves on their utterly self-perceived & self-DECIEVED cleverness.

Do you know that this is based on Walter Farley’s classic books, in which it is a boy. Which is why they didn’t cast a girl in the role, had Mr. Farley written about a girl and her horse. A girl would have been casted.

How about the Alien movies?

I'm not sure if they fit the definition of what you are looking for, but they have strong female leads.

I was going to say Walkabout too. But upon reflection the girl in that film did just about everything wrong survival-wise, and they would have died without being rescued by the Aboriginie boy.

Well, what about The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe? Lucy is the main hero and Susan is a warrior-- there are two young girls featured as heros. Or Fly Away Home- that features a girl, as does The Journey of Natty Gan and Wild Seed. You asked us to name ONE and there are several. Not to mention the movies featuring slightly older girls as physically heroic like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Girl Fight, Million Dollar Baby, and Mulan. I guess I just don't feel like as a woman, the film industry should dictate my role in society and I honestly do not care how they portray women. I can make my own identity and do not need Hollywood to shape it for me. I look at movies as entertainment and really don't think they deserve any more credit than that. I get frustrated when people assign Hollywood moguls that much power. They are mostly in it for the money- do you really want someone like that shaping the views of society? I guess its idealistic to think that movies shouldn't shape society and naive to think they don't, but I just refuse to give a buisness that is simply out to make money (which is fine in my opinion- that is their job) that much responsibility.

its based in the story of Alexander the Great and his black stallion Bucephalus
duh! the kid name is Alec and the horse is called Black
by the way is a great movie I love it

For the most part I agree with Tebok73509, there are very 'few' American films which cast females in strong leading roles, and even when they do there often cliched characters like Ripley in Alien, or worse still, they just make the female stubborn, bossy, loud and/or obnoxious, which DOES NOT equate to strength of character or will!

Japanese and a lot of other Asian films seem to almost be the complete reverse don't you think? They mostly have very strong female characters and have done for decades.

"Bucephalus" means "ox-head", not "black".
