John "Half-Woke" Carpenter

While John Carpenter did go with the classic cliche of the "straight white cisgender male" killer, thus portraying all white males as psychotic killers, he had a strong female character in Laurie Strode. Laurie was able to fight with Michael and hold her own. This was very woke.

But, at the end Carpenter had another straight white cisgender male (Loomis) fire the gun into another straight white cisgender male (Michael). Classic example of the man having to come in and finish the job that the woman wasn't capable of finishing herself. This is not woke. Laurie should've been the one to shoot Michael at the end. Maybe Loomis could've given her shooting lessons instead of him joking that someone gave Michael driving lessons.

Thus, Carpenter is half-woke. His heart was in the right place, but he fell right back into the same old boring cliche by the end of the movie.

How can you fault John Carpenter for not being “woke” in 1978
When all society were all snuggled up comfy asleep and there was none of this stupid woke culture
So said these pansies have taken over what is the supposed correct thought of the modern world

Ever heard of the phrase "ahead of its time?" Carpenter was a bit ahead of the times with this film. I applaud him for being half-woke. He was so close to being woke, though.

You are a joke, how could to applaud or criticize someone for actions that didnt exist for another 40yrs, then was no such thing as woke culture in 1978
You might as well label Michael Myers as an energy hog, did you see in 1963 when he was 6 and killed his own sister, why every light in the house was on, didn't he know about the energy crisis that was about to hit us in 1973

you cancel culure sheeple arent happy unless your whining and screaming about something someone else is doing

Also, Michael could've been an energy hog. He was considered pure evil by Woke Loomis. Someone who was pure evil would not give 2 shits about the planet so it really wouldn't be surprising if Michael left the lights on.

If Loomis had just changed his tactics a bit and spent 15 years teaching Michael about his toxic masculinity, today we’d have an alive tow truck driver and three teens.

Please stop watching the news and social media. It's retarding your delopement as a human being.

All the political labels used by all sides are just ways to keep people separated. A person with leftwing politics, a person with centrist politics, and a person with right wing politics can like similar things and disagree on politics. By using political labels, we put politics and division above the things that we all enjoy. Every person, including yourself, comments on this site because we like movies. Not the same movies but film in general.

Thank you!!!

If Loomis would’ve given Laurie shooting lessons, today’s crowd would’ve accused him of mansplaining.

I know OP is being facetious, but I do think in picking some of the most iconic slasher movies you can see the evolution of how the final girl is portrayed in horror movies over the span of a decade.

Spoiler for a variety of movies follow.

Let's start with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974. Sally Hardesty survives to the end, but basically just by running away. She does jump through a window twice and braves the pain, so she is brave in her own way. But most of the movie she is running and screaming, until she finds a truck passing her who can carry her to safety.

Fast forward to Halloween in 1978 Laurie Stroud is shown to be brave, and is constantly puts the children's safety first. And does do some fighting back, but in the end it's Loomis who turns up and shoots Michael Myers in order to save him.

In Friday The 13th in 1980 the final girl is Alice, who fights back over the murderer and ends up killing them by herself. But notice here that the villain is female. Not yet Jason Vorhees.

By A Nightmare On Elm Street 1984 We say Nancy as a final girl who is forced into facing Krueger alone, and show's her bad-assery by defeating him through brains and courage.

I know that these are not the only slasher movie from that time. And I'm also not holding up A Nightmare On Elm Street as the first to portray women like this. I've just chosen them as some of the most famous/iconic of the slasher movies. And also because they were made of the course of a decade or so. Looking at these iconic movies, it's interesting to see how the change in how the final girls were presented.

woman or minority actor: exists

incels on the internet: THIS MOVIE IS WOOOOOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does everything get defined today as "woke" or "non-woke". That's like saying that there are two types of people in the world, those who believe in flying saucers and those who don't. I believe it is just the sheep of society following along because it is the "in" thing to do. In my 70 years on the Earth, I have seen this kind of thing come and go. There were some positive changes made, for sure, but most of the "new" ideas fell by the wayside
I am of the opinion that the use of the term, like all fads, will fade in time.

If Myers and Loomis started having sex at the end the movie THAT would have been woke. It would have been very brave film making.
