Sandy's change was her choice!

It was HER decision. People have moments in their life where they finally realize it's time to try something new and evolve. I myself have had dozens of those moments since High School. It was about discovering her sexuality and womanhood and letting loose. She was the one who asked Frenchie for "help" in her makeover. Danny and his friends helped her discover that. Whereas Danny intentially was going to change for her which is also admirable. Sandy didn't turn into a tramp, she became a woman. Danny would have loved her regardless of who she was.

Nice post JohnLennon18!

They both changed for each other. It's why I get bothered when people say that she should not have changed for him. Because he did it for her, too, by lettering in track. Yeah, it wasn't as overt, but it was still there.

"Oh my God! You put a living room where the crack den used to be!"

Nevertheless as long as this board exists they'll be a new thread started at least once a month about how Sandy turned into a slut and that it's a horrible message blah blah blah

Sandy turned into a slut

There are actually people saying that? Wow, I'm glad I avoided this board so far.

reply

Yes, they both tried to change for each other, but since Danny defied his friends to change for Sandy and Sandy gave into peer pressure with her slutty makeover, her change came off as sad rather than brave.

Besides, Danny's attempt to change wasn't going to get him pregnant in high school.

And beginning to smoke was not good for Sandy's health.

reply

I agree.

the pink ladies didn't dress too differently from sandy as well.
she was dressed sexier than rizzo even.
she "let her hair down", but she could easily go back to dresses and sweaters like they did.

Just call me Sleight

reply

Exactly. She just dressed up like that to REALLY get his attention at the end. It doesn't mean that she's staying like that or completely changing herself for a man.

reply

Sandy was gorgeous. She didn't need a makeover.

reply

She had to change to get Danny just like Michael had to change to get Stephanie.

Going from a nice girl to a tart was not evolving. It was devolving. She was already a very attractive young woman, and could have stayed the way she was and evolved into a very attractive more mature woman. Trashiness is not the same as womanhood.

Grease was based on a broadway show. In the show, she does not change, and Danny cleans up his act to win her over. I liked that ending a lot better.

reply

Exactly! I don't see her change as positive at all. And especially not the smoking!

reply

Danny changed for her. No one minds. She changes for him and that is just wrong? All she did was wear more revealing clothes, start chain smoking and give him every reason she would do anything for him sexually. Is that so wrong?
