I watched this film last night and thought it was great. My grandad said it was great so i bought it and loved it. Jack Nicholson was brill as usual and mary steenburgen was fantastic.

Just caught this film on one of the hbos this weekend and was surprised at the film's quality. The tvguide review only gave the movie one star so I had pretty low expectations.

I have to wonder who assigns those stars to begin with. I've seen films with one star that rated three and I've seen films with four stars that rated two.

This was a great western comedy. It was never meant to be anything else. And I too was shocked at how good it was and wondered why I hadn't heard of it when it came out.

Then again this is the year of The Deer Hunter, Grease, Halloween, Superman, Animal House, Dawn of the Dead, Midnight Express, Jaws 2 (a yawner for sure, but the hype pushed it up into the stratosphere), The Lord of the Rings (animated version), Invasion of the Body Snatchers and some other truly great film.

I'll bet the studios didn't spend much promoting it.

I liked the film too, Nicholson is great but Mary Steemburgen has a great performence and Goin' South has remained as one of my favorite films.

"Goin' South" is a terrific movie! Sadly, I hadn't even heard of it until I was meandering around Blockbuster one day a couple of months ago. I love Nicholson and Lloyd. They're both very humorous.

What other movie has such a collection of oddball characters? Good God, Christopher, DeVito, Belushi, Ed Begley, Veronica Cartwright? All these people AND Nicholson and Steenburgen?

This movie ranks up there with Used Cars. I love this flick. John Belushi, Christopher Lloyd, the unsinkable Tracy Walters, Danny Devito. Ed Begley jr. Great performances. Jack did a great job with this. This is the way they used to make movies.

I haven't seen it since the early 80's, but it was one of my favorites then.

I remember one thing... I became an instant Mary Steenburgen fan. Sadly for me, she only had one good pic after that (Melvin and Howard).

I liked this film a lot. Jack Nicholson and Mary Steenburgen had terrific chemistry!! There's also some great one-liners in this film, particularly the albino line (LOL!!). I'm surprised by the low rating of Goin' South. This is a very good film, and Nicholson does a pretty good job as director.

I have loved this film since I first saw it when released.....and it still plays well. Too many funny scenes to think about ....but I repeat the opening scene of Nicolson being chased by the posse.....the use of camera angles as one of the best.

The film LOOKS very good, the actors are good actors, it might be the script that prevented me from being able to finish watching. Would have done well without the Western angle. Nicholson could have directed something else.
