Still the best Star Wars Film

As I do every 1st of January, I watch this one first, and the subsequent days, the rest of the original trilogy.

I just finished watching this, and I had a smile throughout the film. It's my favourite film of all time for so many reasons, and in my view still the best Star Wars film.

It's just glorious.

Nostalgia is very strong with this one...

It's my favorite too. Though I'd rank Empire right alongside.

The other Star Wars films are good to varying degrees but never great.

And by "Star Wars films" I'm referring to the first six, the other trilogy doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned.

reply

I agree. What a nice tradition you have.

reply

Thank you.

reply

Yes it is.

reply

It’s by far the best one. The first half of empire is good too. Then it can end.

reply

Why the first half? Where would you see it ending? There’s not much point to the movie if you cut out everything that happens at Cloud City.

reply

It's a great adventure and a lot of fun. And still far superior to all the sci-fi fantasy films that tried to copy it. And even though I do think Empire is a better film in terms of visuals and sound design, I probably tend to watch this one more. Partly because it has some sort of conclusion, partly because I just really like Alec Guinness as Obi, and partly because Han Solo is at his best here.

I always preferred Empire, and maybe still do, but this movie is a complete hero's journey from start to finish with a proper conclusion (unlike the cliffhanger ending in Empire which was never really resolved that well in Jedi). That makes this film feel like a complete story. And the attack on the death star at the end? Hard to beat that.
