Perfect Great Gatsby Cast!!!!! For 2008!

Perfect Great Gatsby Cast:

Daisy-Naomi Watts-- would be PERFECT! (sounds weird but watch King Kong)

Gatsby- Ryan Gosling (He has the ability to play a multi-emotioned, very deep character.)

Nick Carraway- Adrien Brody (He is awesome at playing the sort of blandness necessary for this character)

Jordan Baker- Nikki Reed. (She is amazing at playing the part of a suave beautiful woman.)

Tom Buchanan- Tom Welling (Great at being a manly man)

Myrtle- Emily Blunt? She kind of has that pretty but not too pretty thing going on.

A moment's all you can expect from perfection-unknown

Tom Welling as Tom Buchanan? No thanks. Jensen Ackles would make a better Tom, if you're going for the CW types. I think he could pull off racist, former football player bully.

(*spoilers*)

Gatsby - I can see Leonardo Dicaprio in this part, as well (he has the proper intensity and also projects a "not of the manor born" vibe).

Nick - James Mcavoy (as the observer of the piece, I think he'd be excellent in a part where he can look into the world of the super wealthy from the outside and guffaww at their ways. He'd be excellent in the part of a laid-back writer.)

Daisy - Kirsten Dunst (dreamy of disposition and with airy looks, she'd be a perfect Daisy.)

Jordan - Scarlett Johannson (because she's a wise-ass and the golf cheating scene would be hilarious with her in it. I'd also think she'd play well off James Mcavoy.)

Tom - Patrick Wilson (a perfect "great, hulking man", who's looks would nicely fit into the insular, almost incestrial breeding world of that social set from the 1920s.)

Myrtle - Hayley Atwell (she seems to have spunk and energy. She'd probably also like the opportunity to play a less reserved part than those of late.)

Totally agree about DiCaprio. Seems like now would be the perfect time for him to play the part.

I just watched this movie last night and I couldn't believe how terribly short everyone fell of bringing these characters to life. Don't know if it was the actors or the terrible, bland direction.

There seems to be an endless number of actors who fit many of these parts. I can't disagree with many of the names posted (although I'm tired of watching Scarlett Johansson trying to play period roles - I think she's been lame for a while now).

For the record, my cast:

Jay Gatsby: Leonardo DiCaprio or Hugh Jackman

Daisy Buchanon: Naomi Watts (old yes, but she looks younger than her age) or Amy Adams

Tom Buchanon: Josh Brolin or Christian Bale (both can play confident a$$holes)

Nick Carraway: Jake Gylenhaal or Casey Affleck, maybe Cillian Murphy

Jordan Baker: Anne Hathaway or Kirsten Dunst

Myrtle Wilson: Samantha Morton (too old maybe) or Charlize Theron (for some reason, this seems like the meatiest and most castable roll)

George Wilson: Luke Wilson (I think he could nail the sadness)

Meyer Wolfshiem: Tom Wilkinson

Mr. Gatz: Gary Oldman or Daniel Day-Lewis

And I agree on Daniel Day-Lewis as Gatsby... if he were 10-15 years younger. He'd be perfect. But you could say that about just about any role when it comes to DDL.

Thinking, thinking...but some great ideas here...

Tom Buchanan - needs to have the looks of Ben Affleck, the pain-in-the-ass arrogance of Billy Zane and the priviledged class feel of a Rob Lowe/ James Spader/ Alec Baldwin.

Nick - Adrien Brody sounds really terrific but pity he doesn't have that 30s movie star look much ..or does he?

Gatsby - none of the ones mentioned seem perfect but Leonardo would probably get it...people forget that Gatsby was once poor and so would have a certain awkwardness about it all, a bit of a 'loser' really with his obsession with Daisy and his endearing pretentiousness, and is probably intensely attractive and likeable like Redford.

Daisy - a bit of a waif-like princess like Mia Farrow but today, she'd be a combo of Keira Knightly's box office clout and period look, Amy Adam's spunkiness and freshness and all american demeanor, Natalie Portman's beauty and look and the Ohlsen twins' creepy rich girl personas. Vulnerable and callous. Evan Rachel Wood?

Jordon - Emily Blunt

Myrtle - Maggie Gyllenhaal, I suppose...or Emily Blunt.

George Wilson - Ryan Gosling...( I'd love him as Gatsby but don't see him in the role)

" Of course. There are trains in all Contini films.
It's my signature!"

reply

I must say that if you think Gatsby is multifaceted and deep, you must not understand the character very well. He's as shallow as they come.

Naomi Watts is the only one of that bunch that I like, but I agree with Toby Maguire as Nick and Ed Norton would make a great George, but I think at this point in his career, he probably wouldn't take a role that small.

reply

I completely disagree with every actor on your list, except maybe naomi watts.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it.

reply

I think that there's been some pretty good suggestions here tbh and funnily enough was about to post something asking the very same question.

reply

What everyone always fails to remember is that Daisy is a BRUNETTE in the book (check it if you don't believe me). That's always something that bothered me about the movies.

reply

sorry if someone already said this because i didnt go through the other posts yet but i think christian bale wood be the perfect gatsby

I always seem to picture Lee Pace playing pretty much any male character from The Great Gatsby
