Serpico in the post-Black Lives Matter era.
Does Serpico need a revaluation in a BLM world? Is it copaganda? Is it problematic how black people are portrayed as rapists, thieves and corrupt?

It would make a great plot, since Frank Serpico is obviously a liberal hippie. He would take a stand against the systemic racism from within the force in the same vein as he did against the "meat eaters" during the Knap Commission investigations.
shareThe movie doesn't say that all black people are rapists, thieves, and corrupt. The movie just shows the police targeting black criminals while, presumably, letting the whites ones go (at least at a higher rate). There's nothing racist about that detail; it speaks more to the NYPD's policing targets than to black criminality.
And not all blacks are portrayed unfavorable. Remember Pacino was friendly with one of the black dudes who got arrested. He took the guy across the street for coffee
Policemen do tend to come.into.contact with criminals!
shareStatistically, black people ARE the most likely to be rapists and thieves. Sounds like a fairly accurate portrayal. Corruption isn't exactly as easy to get hard data on.
shareExactly, the data shows that blacks are disproportionately causing the most crime. Whether that has anything to do with race or not I am not able to say but that is a fact. It seems like the OP doesn’t want to accept the truth.
shareremember when they were disproportionately causing slavery?
Hardly any of those slaves were white!
Your point being? So the fact that their great-great-great-great grandparents may or may not have been slaves is an excuse to be a rapist or thief? Also the slaves were sold by people in African who were mostly likely black! Maybe these rapists and thieves were descendants of slave traders. Have you considered that?
shareFunny I’ve seen plenty of films where white people are portrayed as rapists, thieves and corrupt.
Is there any film out there that says all black people are “rapists, thieves and corrupt”? If so please tell me so I can review it and tell you if you’re right or not.
It also seems that you are trying to portray cops as racists, murderers and corrupt which is just as “problematic”.
And no Serpico does not need a revaluation. It was a great film.
Yeah... Any movie that took place in Applachia or various poor White enclaves around the nation would depict cops having many run-ins with felons who also have pasty complexions. Awful truth is, certain demographics do commit different types of crimes
Another example: Both Jews and East Asians make up a large percentage of the financial sector's workforce. It wouldn't be surprising to learn than there are more White Collar criminals who also happen to be Jewish and East Asian then
