The reason you're all arguing about the rape scene.

...is because it is a completely unrealistic, ridiculous scene. Rape victims do not start to enjoy the rape halfway through. That's why you're confused, because it's bulls#*t. And all the stuff she did that supposedly instigated the rape (whether you argue that she wanted to be taken by force or that she 'deserved' it) is also bulls#*t. That whole scene(s) was thought up by a man, written by a man, directed by a man and so on, and so of course she deserved it and wanted it, because everybody knows all men have magical d*cks, and if we women would just roll over and take it, we'd all be much better off and not be such up-tight b*tches.

No, not all men think that way, and yes, this is just a movie, but there are plenty of stupid, ignorant people out there who see something on TV or in a movie and take it as gospel. And this scene perpetuates this myth that 'no' means 'yes, but I just don't want to admit it, so I'm saying no.' Which is bulls#*t.

Society in 2015/2016

Sees a man whipped and murdered while the girl who was raped looks on and does nothing. Watches multiple other men get blown away.

...offended over a rape scene.

Exactly - astonishing, isn't it?

But this is because to many people, rape is seen as something even worse than murder, as for one, there is no justification with rape and murder at least can at times be justified, and also what makes it often so horrible beyond words is the fact that it associates something that is beautiful and pleasurable with pain and suffering, and can cause major mental and at many times even physical injuries that are incredibly difficult, and can at times be impossible, to heal and cure, and when adding many other factors into the mix, including the fact that it happens and happened way too many times throughout human history to bear even track of, and that by legal system it is often difficult to prove and prosecute (many consider vigilante justice to be an option, but realistically-wise, it may not totally solve it in the end either) more so than other violent crimes, hence the bigger outrage.

Sorry, but not all men are wimps who will wilt when you get angry.

The man who wrote the scene also wrote the scene in which the woman tries to shoot the Stranger. Put that in your feminazi data bank.

Shockingly, there are women out there fantasizing about being raped.
Some will try and provoke you into violence.
That gives you a chance to find out who you really are.

You have some legitimate points and are right to be offended. I could do without that scene, too. If the movie were made today, that scene would be politically incorrect; even with an R rating.

It is unrealistic, yes. But your interpretation shows a complete lack of understanding of the story.

The story is one of a vengeful spirit getting revenge on those who wronged him. She was a complicit party to his murder, and her outrage at the refusal of the townspeople to give her justice is punishment for her refusal to allow for justice for the murdered man.

She is clearly a sly character intended to be understood to be completely mercenary - someone who uses sex to try to manipulate whomever she perceives as powerful.

But it's a fantasy story with unrealistic situations intended to illustrate broader ideas - and nobody is meant to walk away thinking it's okay to rape anyone.

I'm sorry but my experience differs from yours...perhaps you're not doing it right!

The validity of my answers is highly dependent on the intelligence of the question..or lack thereof.

Well, a few of your more 'upstanding ' citizens on the film ratings review board gave the movie the 'Thumbs Up' to be released back in 1973....so actually it would be their fault for giving you all this fictional "unrealistic" and "Ridiculous" scene that has you all in an uproar.

I'd suggest either trying to tame the ratings board OR just not watching the movie.
