Why did Coppola insist on NY?
It is well known that Coppola insisted on shooting the film in NY during the 1945 era. About the 1946 period piece, I understand. But about New York? A couple of scenes in the movie show the NY skyline -- like when Clemenza whacks Paulie. But most of the movie's story could be shot elsewhere and the audience wouldn't be able to tell. The hospital or the building where the commission's meeting could be added to the film. So why did Coppola insist on shooting the film in New York?
