Kind of unfair to the prostitute with Tattaglia...
...that she gets strafed with gunfire too, just because she happens to be in bed with him at the wrong moment.

shareI agree. They could have pulled her out of the bed first.
In Part II, another working girl met her end in order to set up Senator Geary. Wouldn't presenting him with photos of these trysts have been enough to keep him under control?
I think these were examples of how Michael was more ruthless than his father.
Good analysis.

Agreed.
shareYou’ve got the wrong whore. This thread is about the one who was shot with Tataglia, not the one stabbed in Geary’s room. Didn’t you read the OP?

I read that Coppola added the murder of the prostitute because without it the mob, and Michael by proxy, seemed too sympathetic.
It’s an interesting conundrum with the Godfather films - Michael simply does what anyone would do to protect himself and his family, yet the films, and audiences, seem to condemn him 🤷🏻♂️
They’re not in the habit of leaving witnesses around for their murders.
shareEh that’s mob life for you , I have a feeling she at least had an idea of what kind of a person Tatalliga was. Also was it confirmed that Rocco killed her?
shareThe 1972 paperback edition includes stills from the film, one of which shows Tattaglia’s bedroom massacre with the caption “The end of a white slaver don.” In the film Michael refers to him as a “pump,” not smart enough to set up Sonny’s hit.
They probably did her a favor. "Why am I sleeping with a man who's old enough to be my great grandfather? Please put me out of my misery!" 😄
shareBut seriously. I'm guessing the Corleone's just chalked it up as collateral damage. Same way how Neri didn't need to kill Barzini's chofer, but he did anyway!
If I remember correctly in the book. The hitmen didn't harm the prostitute when they entered the room. Granted, that woman is gonna need years of post traumatic therapy after witnessing her sugar daddy gunned down at her bedside 😄
That's interesting that it's a change from the book.

Yep, collateral damage. I think the mob simply didn't care about whores. These guys were the types that had goomars but demanded virginal brides who remained faithful while they ran around (like Sonny), but thought whores were scum who deserved any fate they should get.
That is accurate. In the book, Tatalliga is standing alongside the bed and “Rocco pumped four bullets into him, all in the belly”. The prostitute was not shot…except for in the film.
