Was this ever explained?

Why did the judges of Gotham City keeping releasing many of the super villains after Batman locked them up? Riddler, Joker, Catwoman, Mr Freeze and Penguin for example all were jailed and released multiple times. That wasn't right. These villains were the worst of the worst and needed longer sentences

reply

No explanation needed. No villains, no show. :)

reply

Exactly add to that the same thing happened in the comics.

The show was like a comic book on TV never to be taken seriously it was just a fun ride.

reply

I guess I was hoping to see a few episodes where Batman takes on more of a social justice warrior role. Batman would make one hell of a community organizer

reply

They were liberals. 😄

If I remember, I think a couple of times they explained Penguin and others were released early for “good behavior.”

reply

Arkham Asylum's 'revolving door policy' often gets a mention in the comics, I guess on the show Gotham Penitentiary has one too! Besides, Batman needs something to keep him busy and out of the way so that Alfred can get on with dealing with the real criminals in Gotham!

reply

Because other than the outrageous (and borderline gay) costumes, they were actually more petty criminals than arch criminals. I mean, they didn't even carry guns.

They could have killed the Caped Crusaders many dozens of times but only set them up in Rube Goldberg type devices that allowed them plenty of time and opportunity to escape.

reply

Guns would have made a quick end of the comic books and series which nobody wanted. Batman was a steady paycheck for all involved right down to the guy who put the paint on the Rube Goldberg devices.

reply

It's probably because the worst parts of the crimes are often left unproven, millsey72. Most of the villainous characters create their own stories of whatever happens, and sometimes Batman and Robin are the only people to witness all of the details. The duo is not always free to reveal everything to everyone, and there tend to be contradictions and unexpected escapes. Penguin, Riddler, and Joker are especially adept at making strong alibis for themselves. However, this only explains the matter on an individual basis. Collectively, you're right about all of the repetitive offenders needing to be dealt with in a more aggressive manner, and that would happen in real life after so many times.

reply

Well I haven't seen every episode yet. In any of the episode cliff hangers, did the villain actually kill Batman or Robin in those traps? A few times, it was very close and I was shocked they were able to escape just in the nick of time

reply

I have only seen a handful of episodes, but that's enough for me to know how the show works. Batman and Robin never die in the traps. They usually evade death through Batman's quick strategies, but one time a power outage saves them when they are restrained to electric chairs. That turnout is a bit annoying because it's luck and can't be attributed to ingenuity.

reply

Wow! You were able to figure out the plot formula after only watching a few episodes? I just finished season 2 and I thought Batman and or Robin were a goner in a few of the cliff hangers. I couldn't believe they escaped some of these traps

reply

In the unbroadcast series finale, Catwoman gave Batman syphilis.

The ending credits tell us Bruce Wayne went insane and died in Arkham Asylum and Dick Grayson, heir to the Wayne fortune, shrugged his shoulders and became a true international playboy.

The video can be viewed on the dark web.

reply

I didn't know this. Thanks. Maybe this unbroadcasted finale is available on the DVD box set?

Her's another lost episode. It was too much for 1966 audiences. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=batman+tv+show+porn+parody&&view=detail&mid=55747415511CA3BB6F8A55747415511CA3BB6F8A&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dbatman%2Btv%2Bshow%2Bporn%2Bparody%26FORM%3DVQFRAT

Link dead.

Batman XXX a porn parody of the TV show. Amazing likenesses to the actors, costumes and they have 1966 Batmobile

reply

LOL, might be worth watching porn! I can almost imagine what might be contained in Batman's utility belt.

reply

You find non-porn segments on the internet. I haven't seen the movie.

reply

found the g rated trailer

reply

The audience quickly and easily learns the pattern of the episodes. The cliffhangers always have an air of potential escape for the victims, and then display one in the continuation. We know that Batman and Robin are not going to die because that would defeat the point of the show. The idea is to demonstrate that the two guys can beat evil.

Thanks for clarifying

I can't tell if that poster is taking your post seriously or joining in the fun.

He took it seriously

Dude, you weren't serious????

I know you knew I wasn't serious. You're one of the more astute posters on these boards

You're welcome, but thank you too, for informing me that your cockiness cannot be quelled with a neutral response. I realize that you are just being silly, but in textual form, your replies sound brash. Jumping from genuine questions to mordant answers is never an ideal approach, even if you are fooling around.

I'm sorry

He/she/they don't understand your charm.

Thank you very much, millsey72. It's rare and refreshing to encounter someone who takes responsibility for the outcome of online posts when there is a problem. I appreciate your recognizing my point and am glad that your delivery has been unintentional.

reply

It's a conspiracy.

The officials of Gotham were worried that if there weren't any super villains for Batman to chase, then he would start looking for crime elsewhere. And Batman might discover that not all criminal masterminds wear ridiculous outfits. Some wear a suit and tie and are elected officials who have hands in the cookie jar. So, they find ways for super villains to be released early so that Batman always has something to do.

reply

Gotham is a Democrat-run city with Soros-bought DA and judges whose goal is to empty the jails. Between that and the Democrat-weakened police force, Batman and Robin are all that stands between criminals and the public.
