The Dark Knight is a higher rating?

*beep* imdb sometimes pisses me off. This is the dumbest thing ever.

reply

why do you put so much validity in ratings. if u like it who cares. i just watched this movie an hour ago for a class and am glad i did. it was a great movie.

reply

I enjoyed The Dark Knight more than I enjoyed this one. So what? I'm not saying this movie wasn't good but Dark Knight was better. It's like that for me, might be the other way around for you. More people like the Dark Knight, get over it. And in 30-40 years probably the dark knight will go down on the ratings, but it's not like people have been voting for Strangelove for 30-40 years. If imdb was open for all these years Dr Strangelove would have a lower rating as well.

reply

Just like Dr. Strangelove is the best satirical comedies ever, the Dark Knight is the best superhero movies ever. I view both the movies in equal standing, can't compare them and say which one is better, both are equally good at what they are trying to offer. If one is slightly rated better than the other, I have no problems.

I thought Batman Begins was better than The Dark Knight. Either way, The Dark Knight doesn't even deserve to be in the top-250. It is a good movie, but it is overshadowed by several. It is all just a bunch of action and bad pacing. The ending was crap.

I haven't seen TDKR yet but having seen Nolan's earlier offerings, combined with various reviews about TDKR, it's clearly not a classic. Its present rating is inflated because of its recent release and in time this will decrease and films such as Dr Strangelove will triumph over modernist crap.

Why problem make? When you no problem have, you don't want to make ...

reply

Agreed!

I think it's even worse when people simply put things as down to 'taste' as well.

This is a hard pickle to argue around, because film is a very subjective medium, but clearly there are films that have more depth and precision to them then others!

Sometimes you have to lose yourself before you can find anything.

I'm not one of these people who bashes newer films, because they're newer (I think The Matrix was the greatest sci-fi movie of all time) but I hated TDK and TDKR. Normally I wouldn't give it much more thought than that, lots of movies come out that I hate. But what irks me is the weird cult-like mentality of these movie fans who are incredibly aggressive towards critics who dislike those movies. Honestly, I thought both were 1 hour too long, full of plot holes, full of plain ridiculous moments, and people overrate Ledger because he is dead and a lot of teenagers fancied him. That's basically all I took from the film. That stupid car which should have been in transformers, the wanton destruction of the city, it was just a weak film compared to the 1989 classic.

Wouldn't make my top 500.

There are the weird fanboys but there are also a lot of people who watch loads of movies and also watched The Dark Knight and really liked it. Didn't Roger Ebert, for example, give it four stars? And a load of other critics loved it? I don't usually mention critics in debates like this but their high ratings completely kill the BS about only stupid teenagers and people who haven't seen many movies likng it.

I thought that Ledger was very good in The Dark Knight, I thought that Christian Bale did what he had to - to me the heart of the movie was Michael Caine and Gary Oldman. They elevated it for me, and my rating on this site for it was a 10 - it's actually rounded up from 9.5, without Caine and Oldman I probably would have been rounding down to 9. I thought that Batman Begins was fine, I thought that The Dark Knight Rises had its moments but was extremely flawed. I'm certainly no Christopher Nolan fanboy and the fact that he has so many movies so high in the top 250 is one of the things that discredits the list for me.

People saying things like "People who like Dr Strangelove more are more intelligent than people who like The Dark Knight more"... grow the *beep* up.

Seems like public in general don't agree with you and TDK is moving higher and higher. It was down there at # 11 and now it # 7. Beating Schindler's List was the toughest part, now I guess it will easily move unto # 4 soon

I shouldn't level myself to this, but I agree. Wholeheartedly. It's a personal thing, though, but Apocalypse Now is the one that gets me. Inception and The Dark Knight... Are better than Apocalypse Now? Nothing's better than Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse Now is one of the few films I would actually call perfect. It's amazing. Everyone should see it. Even people who aren't into old/arty films enjoy it. My dad thinks Battleship has a good story, and even he likes Apocalypse Now. It's Apocalypse motherfecking Now. I normally settle for the whole, oh, it's just opinions, they're subjective, and they are, they are just opinions, opinions are just subjective.

But Apocalypse Now is Apocalypse Now!!!

(sorry for ranting about Apocalypse Now; the point I'm making can be applied to Strangelove, certainly)

The Dark Knight will not be remembered in 50 years.

I think you are really wrong on this one.
