quite possibly the dumbest question ever asked, as she is only considered to be the most gorgeous woman in Hollywood history, though that can be disputed. but fer chrissake, Monroe was a knock-out. PERIOD.

I think she was absolutely flawless in her beauty. She died two years before I was born but seemed to epitomize, at least for me as a male, what beauty, sexuality and glamor was all about.

As far as The Misfits, I thought that was her best role and even though she was having numerous personal problems at the time, she was breathtaking. BTW, her hairstyle in that film was in the form of a wig. I read somewhere, that she was buried in that wig because her hair was badly damaged.

I absolutely agree with you, I simply don´t like the look of her, but perhaps it´s a matter of personal taste. I think Katharine Hepburn was VERY beautifull, or Julia Roberts is, and they´re quite different physical type. Intelligent, I should say

Just my opinion but Katharine Hepburn was striking not beautiful and Julia Robers looks like a barracuda. She should never smile.

Monroe was not a 'natural beauty' in my opinion, I'd even say she was not beautiful in the least. Much of what we see as her iconic image is fake, such as her blonde hair and acres of mascara. There were many more better actresses who were both naturally beautiful and still had their own and unique 'natural' look. Louise Brooks, Audrey Hepburn, Sophie Loren and Lauren Bacall for example.

Louise Brooks, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren were all great beauties. And every one of them wore a TON of make-up! I mean, ever see Sophia without her black eyeliner and false lashes? Still quite attractive, but not...SOPHIA. Same goes for Audrey. Bacall was a knockout, but her "look" was different, less made-up.

this italian woman did,and Sophia LOREN gorgeous bod face etc. both and persona.

her and marily had"similar"looks,and hair style too! they were close.friends,many did not even know this  other gorgeous beautie,(dorothy,but i do!) 1 of my fave actress of all time and my mother,and father's.

Agreed. Marilyn always exuded a misty sensuality and glamor that I have not seen in any other actress. Not even in Ashwariya Rai or Angelina Jolie, who some people consider extremely sexy/beautiful. But not me.

This is an 'overall reply' to those of you who question MM's beauty....

In Bus Stop, you have to remember that she was creating a character, and she purposely 'glammed down' her appearance for this role!!!

The overwhite skin (Cherie slept all day, so why would she have 'normal' skin?" and the yellow teeth, the ratty costume, these are all elements of the character that MM played up..

So please do not judge the woman's appearance by this one film; see her in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and "Niagara", in both of which she is stunning!!

In fact, at the time, one critic said of her in "Blondes"........."Monroe looks as though she could glow in the dark".........

anyway, hope this clarifies why she looked the way she did in "Bus Stop"......

ive said this lots of times, but ill say it again lol. once you read up about her and find out more about her past and what went on in her life, her inner beauty kinda..shines out. i used to find her okay looking but once i started watching her movies and reading biographies it made me realize how beautiful she was.

i agree. the more you know about Marilyn, the easier it is to adore her. And in Bus Stop, she was badly made up and styled to look more realistic. you can't expect her to be glamorous in this role like the others. a glamorous girl wouldn't be caught dead in a saloon in the middle of nowhere. i think she's one of the most beautiful women in the world, even now when hollywood blondes are a dime a dozen.

and PS- i know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Julia Roberts over Marilyn Monroe?? i really can't follow that train of thought.

you should watch other Marilyn movies, esp Some Like it Hot. She just dazzles in this film. But she always dazzles.

I thought the exact same thing about the other blond girl on the bus being prettier than MM.

In case you didn't know the other blonde was Hope Lange, she played Mrs. Muir in the tv show The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Charles Bronson's wife in the first Death Wish.
