Insomuch as Oscar winning screenwriter Edmund H. North (AA Best Screenplay: co-writer "Patton") freely admitted in an interview that Klaatu's alien lingo is a complete and utter fabrication, that immortal cinematic line is rife for speculation and always open to interpretation. But were I to hazard a guess we must first take the complete line in context to the events leading up to that moment in the film Helen Benson is given these instructions by Klaatu to convey to Gort in the eventuality that anything should go awry or amiss before Klaatu was to complete his mission to Earth . The entire line reads..."Gort...Klaatu Barada Nikto"! Ergo, a probable loose interpretation in colloquial English of those orders in countermanding any "Universal Directorate" might be: Gort. Klaatu unable to reach ship...Universal Directorate (to annihilate the Earth) temporarily recinded. At which point Gort scoops Helen up in his arms, takes her inside the spacecraft and proceeds to use the ship's instrumentation to locate Klaatu's exact whereabouts. Of course, how Gort was able to shamble through even the lesser known back streets of Washington DC at night undetected without scaring the living bejesus out of passersby is quite beyond me. But for all intents and purposes, to our earthly ears, Helen might just as well have said: Gort...fix me a roast beef sandwich with a little Dijon on the side.

When I used to attend sci fi conventions, I had a button made up with a possible translation:

GORT, I'VE FALLEN, AND I CAN'T GET UP!

According to a source: "I die, repair me, do not retaliate."

Also, on the Internet:

Klaatu = http://wimwords.com/2013/01/17/from-the-stacks-klaatu/

Barada = http://www.comicvine.com/barada/4005-52904/

Nikto = http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Nikto_NEGAS.jpg

---

Also, in my opinion (I am serious):

Klaatu = 231146 = 17

Barada = 212141 = 11

Nikto = 51247 = 19

Therefore

Klaatu Barada Nikto = 47 = 11 = 2

But since 47 contains 1128, 1128 =12 = 3

Therefore

Klaatu Barada Nikto = 🔺

Still the most unforgettable three words in movies! If Gort came knocking at my door, I'd know exactly what to say!! I don't think anyone that has seen this movie forgets those three words! "Schlackt-hof Funf" is another good one to remember!!

"Irwin, we're gonna' have to kill him"!
