Why is this crap so famous in US?

This is an ok movie, I'm sure that back then its sfx were on par with Avatar (another just ok movie btw). But Americans decided to hold it as a classic for the ages for some reasons I can't quite fathom.

This is almost obscure outside of the US, something that will shock most Americans but that's a fact. Most people in the world know of the Wizard of Oz, as a name, that's about it.
No Dorothy, Toto, Tin Man etc. Nor very popular side icons like munchkins or witches of the East or flying monkeys. All that is not popular knowledge anywhere else. This is not shown every year on tv or whatever, at least not since 1939 :-)

So why do you think Americans keep it as something so special in their tradition?

reply

This is a child's movie first and foremost, I get that many of you all hate children's movies because they don't have enough adult jokes in them

It is very good at entertaining children, Adults who lost their sense of wonder, not so much.

reply

Actually, I wouldn't say that I hate children's movies or need "adult jokes".
There are plenty of "children's movies" out there, which I keep coming back to even as a grown-up.
And yet, this one just didn't work for me.
But I guess it's true that I might have appreciated this movie more as a child.
But I never watched it until I was an adult and already was much more familiar with another version of the story.
So I couldn't find this movie interesting or entertaining.
That is maybe unfortunate, but I can't do anything about it.

reply

In Romanian it is something like "Vrajitorul din Oz"

reply

What does it mean?

reply

The Wizard of Oz

reply

Who would have guessed it!?

reply

Nadia Comăneci și Nicu Paleru

Looks like Yanks aren't capable of intelligent, literate replies without racism, venom or sarcasm.

Over-sensitive, I think.

reply

For some reason, this is considered in America as a holy film to behold as sacred.
But I think they all mean well, in their own way.

reply

Because it's better than Fag Eurpoean soccer.

reply

What is that?
Do you mean football, the most popular sport in the world?

reply

This is almost obscure outside of the US.... HA HA ... Troll off Heisenberg you fuckwit.

reply

You are very right, Heisenberg. Although I wouldn't call it obscure, it is far from a classic outside the borders of the US. It is never on TV in Norway. Not once have I ever seen it play here.

I just saw the film projected in 4K and it is a very striking film. But peculiar that the film hasn't been given the same privilege of being shown annually in Scandinavia (and I guess large parts of Europe) like in the US.

reply

Yep! That goes for Europe and I suspect for Asia, Africa and pretty much anywhere not completely under American colonization.
But try to explain it to an American...
