Jefferson Smith: liberal or conservative

I don't think he's either or. I think he's just an honest, compassionate, free thinker. An independent like others have mentioned in this thread.

It's better not to be just black and white in the way you live. There should be diversity in how you think and approach life. There should be a many layers and grays to your perception and be open-minded, flexible.

I think one of the brilliant things about this movie is that Capra (a Republican) made a movie that was political but it was specifically and intentionally nonpartisan. This isn't a liberals vs. conservatives or Democrats vs. Republicans movie. It's a movie about honesty in a politically corrupt system, and while everyone can argue about which side is more corrupt, I would bet a million dollars Capra didn't intend to make a statement on the behalf of either side of spectrum.
