I don't understand how her career hasn't really taken off

She is very much the greatest young actress of our time and starting with IT you could see how she would become a top Hollywood actress and an A lister but it is looking like her career hasn't really taken off as it should have and she is still lacking that breakout role.

I don't get it, does she have a bad agent or something?

reply

She's young. There's still time before she gets stuck in Thora Birch mode.

reply

Problem is that she doesn't exactly has anything big or interesting line up. Doesn't looks like she is getting much in terms of acting gigs.

reply

I'm not sure what about her body of work would exactly justify her "taking off" exactly organically. Besides, most people who "take off" were predetermined by the industry behind the scenes to be pushed as the next big thing, with high-profile projects lined up for them. She also gives off "baby dyke" vibes so I don't see her ever garnering a significant male fan following
although it didn't matter in Kristen Stewart's case, even if she is the exception. The industry continued pushing her despite almost everything she starred in not called Twilight, flopping hard. All things considered, Lillis she seems to be doing fine.

I mean she had plenty of hype initially and her performance on IT was praised. She was also coming up in a similar way to Millie Bobbie Brown but it looks like Millie stole her thunder.

It's a tough business. So many actors have done a movie or two that got them some attention, but their careers never took off.

I think at the very least, she'll work steadily. Most actors don't.

reply

I think Millie Bobby Brown stole her thunder.

reply

She impressed me in IT, have to say. She deserves to have a good career.

reply

She was amazing in IT. Agreed she totally deserves a good career.

reply

She still has time

reply

She is young of course but specially for women when they hit 30 things really take a downturn unless you have already established yourself. If she doesn't gets breakout roles soon she may not become as big as she could have.

reply

Amy Adams was in her 30s before she "broke out". Sophia even portrayed her younger version.

As a few have said she's still young, only 22. Although I don't agree she's the "greatest young actress of our time". What performances has she done that deserve that tag. I'm not feeling that one at all.

One thing she's lacking so far, She's yet to have her Easy A (Emma Stone), The Edge of Seventeen (Hailee Steinfeld) or Sixteen Candles (Molly Ringwald) break out star performance. A film and performance that is made for her that she has to carry. None of her films to date have really being a showcase for Sophia.

Only time will tell with Sophia. I be very interested in seen where her career goes. I'm not as convinced she be the big time success that some think she be. I would like to see her do more challenging roles though.
